Why it’s Never too Hot to Workout

It’s hot out there, but that’s no excuse not to workout.

Don’t let the temperature stop you from exercising, there are ways to get around the heat and workout this summer.

Here are some tips to keep your fitness up this summer:

Workout earlier

At 5.30am, Bondi Beach is packed with people in fitness gear, and for good reason. The temperature doesn’t start rising until around 8am, so if you can get in before then, you wont feel the heat during your workout.

You will burn more calories

There are a plethora of studies about core body temperature, and the fact the higher it is, the more likely you are to burn calories. Of course there is a trade off, as the hotter you are, the harder it is to sustain both your energy and therefore the level at which you are training, as well as your workout time. A high intensity 30 minute session in the heat is perfect to burn calories and keep your fitness up this summer.

Water, and lots of it

Forget sports drinks, you need a serious amount of water when training in the heat. Be sure to hydrate before, after and during your workout, and drink up to a litre extra of water per day for every 30 minutes of exercise.

Go for a swim

Bondi Icebergs is as inviting as ever at this time of year, and it’s the best place to get in a great workout in the heat. It is a natural sea water pool, so has amazing benefits for your hair and skin, as well as your fitness. Swimming helps build endurance, tones your muscles and keeps your lung and heart healthy.

If you’re not a natural swimmer start by doing just 10 laps and then work up your way up to 30.

Don’t let the heat stop you from working out this summer.
