Best-Selling Makeup During Sydney Lockdown, According to Mecca and Sephora

top selling makeup products at Sephora and Mecca

These are the top ten makeup products currently trending with Mecca and Sephora

Globally, the beauty industry is getting stronger with each passing year. With an increase from $483B in 2020 to $511B in 2021, and an annual compounded growth rate of 4.75 percent worldwide it is predicted to exceed $716B by 2025.

With 60 percent of that contributing to ecommerce beauty sales of makeup and skincare being made in the Asia Pacific and North America only.

In Australia, the success of Mecca both in-store and online has generated an estimated $444 million a year in sales, putting the founders Joanna Horgan & Peter Wetenhall at a wealth value of $658 million and a ranking of 174 out of 200 as one of the wealthiest couples in Australia, according to the rich list of 2021 noted in the Australian Financial Review.

Since the pandemic started in 2020, those sales are now dominating the Australian ecommerce beauty market, alongside Adore Beauty and Sephora

Spare time always plays an integral part in shopping and trialing new products, whether that be shopping online, or in-store. The latter being the only choice right now in Lockdown.  And now, spare time seems to be all we have.

So, in the name of beauty, I spent some time shopping some of the best selling makeup products according to Mecca and Sephora. Here’s what I found:

MECCA

Urban Decay All Nighter Long Lasting Makeup Setting Spray RRP $55

Powered by Urban Decay’s patented temperature control technology which works to lower the temp of your makeup, this setting spray will keep your face looking and feeling fresh all day long.

It’s smudge proof and lasts up to 16-hours without having to re-apply.

The spray is lightweight and easy to wear, whether you’re wearing a full face of makeup, only concealer or a tinted moisturiser.

Laura Mercier Translucent Loose Setting Powder RRP $56

A favourite for the no makeup makeup wearers as it works remarkably well with tinted moisturiser. The powder is lightweight and suits all skin tones, is ultra-fine and practically undetectable on the skin, making it easy to wear for long hours and last too.

It can be re-applied throughout the day if needed. Being stuck in lockdown doesn’t mean we can’t achieve a flawless look.

Use a tinted moisturiser and finish with a light application of this loose powder to set the tone of your skin for a lovely natural makeup look.

Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara RRP $38

Can a mascara be better than sex? Probably not. But for those days when your female energy is super-charged and everything else is just getting in your way, this mascara gives you amped up, super-dark lashes, with curl, bounce and mind-blowing length.

This vegan mascara lengthens, gives volume and separates lashes as you apply and has an hourglass-shaped wand also curls as you apply for a dramatic lift.

This mascara makes a worthy replacement for lash extensions. Perfect whilst we wait for the lockdown to end, and we can finally hit up our local lash specialist for a new set of extensions.

NARS Bronzing Powder RRP $54

Infused with tiny specks of gold, there’s a reason this bronzer is a global winner. It’s buildable and lightweight formula suits both cool and warm skin tones and delivers a subtle warm glowing finish to your makeup look. It’s available in 4 lovely shades to suit light to dark skin tones.

The finely milled powders give skin a smoother, more even looking tone with an undetectable finish.

Though this powder is buildable, start with a light dust across areas of your face the sun touches, like your nose, lower chin, forehead and under cheekbones. It can be used as a replacement for your normal blush as well or used to enhance the look of a natural tan.

SEPHORA:

KVD Beauty ModCon Liquid-Gel Blush RRP $35

When I first looked at the new liquid-gel blush by KVD, I was like WHOA! I could never pull this off. The rich pigment of colour is intense, and I was nervous I would use too much and come out looking like a Burlesque dancer.

However, despite the heavy pigmentation of the shades, once it hits the skin, it’s smooth, blends well and adds a lovely hint of colour to the cheeks.

Start with 1-2 very small drops max, applying to the cheek area, and use your fingers to blend. When you become comfortable with the product, it’s an absolute delight to wear, as it doesn’t dry out skin and is long lasting.

Fenty Beauty Gloss Bomb Universal Lip Luminizer RRP $32

The luminizer can be worn over the top of your normal lipstick to boost shine and add dimension to your lips, or worn alone for a glossy natural lip look, depending on which shade you choose.

The gloss bomb is long lasting, easy to wear and gives lips a nice moisture boost as well, providing lips with a decent dose of hydration to stop them from drying out.

Opted for this clear shade called Glass Slipper, which can be matched with any shade lipstick. Shade Fussy, which is a mushroom pink is also a favourite and can be matched with any nude shade lipstick.

Tarte Shape Tape Contour Concealer RRP $42

Tarte is a cult brand, and for good reason. The founder and CEO, American Maureen Kelly set out to create her fun-loving makeup brand more than sixteen years ago establishing her brand as a fun treat for the skin, which is both healthy, effective and affordable.

This concealer blends well, is smooth as silk and lasts all day too. The formulation of this concealer is moisturising, so it won’t dry out skin and is available in 30 skin tone shades.

I love replacing my foundation with this concealer for days when I’m chilling at home, and looking for minimal coverage of any blemishes and unbalanced skin tone.

Benefit Cosmetics Precisely My Brow Eyebrow Pencil RRP $45

This eyebrow pencil, with its custom control grip, helps you achieve natural looking, bushy brows and comes with a 3D eyebrow enhancer gel to help highlight and nourish brows.

It’s available in a wide range of shades from blonde to dark grey to match your brow tones and help create depth and colour.

Since being back in lockdown, I have been obsessing with my brows. This is the only brand with a perfectly matched shade to my brows; Warm Black Brown.

FRESH Sugar Tinted Lip Treatment Sunscreen SPF 15 RRP $32

This treatment protects and smooths the lips by using real sugar which is a natural humectant, delivering delectable and dependable moisture, whilst also providing protection from damaging UV rays.

The shades are sheer and buildable, with my favourite being being shade Icon, which is like a cherry red and a great alternative to red lipstick.

It can be applied multiple times throughout the day to lips, to keep them both nourished and well protected from the sun when outdoors and hydrated from air cons and heaters when stuck indoors.

Huda Beauty Nude Eyeshadow Palette RRP $100

Another cult beauty brand, inside this Huda palette, you’ll find 3 sections of eye shadows, concealer base, matte shades and multi-reflective shades. Each shade is perfectly pigmented for long-lasting wear and colour.

This palette reinvents the concept of nude shades, with colours that blend well for eyes that pop, whilst the formulation doesn’t dry out and last throughout the day.

The concealer base shades can also be applied on top of the multi reflective shades to reduce glitter and create a designed effect.
