Which Nail Colour Best Suits Your Complexion?

Having a hard time choosing the right nail colour? Have you thought about matching it to suit your complexion?

With so many nail colours to choose from, it can be difficult to decide which colour will look right on your nails.

Colours can reveal so much of a personality, and nails usually create those first impressions, especially if the colour or design pop out.

Just like eyeshadow and lipsticks, not all colour and shades will suit with every complexion, so it’s all about trial and error.

It’s important to experiment to see what works.

But first, if you’re unsure what your complexion is, there are methods to  determine what your skin tone and undertone is

Pale Skin Tone

For pale complexions, colours which will both enrich yet, compliment your skin tone are the perfect match. Try lighter shades including pink blush or colours with blue undertones.

Any pastel colour will also look great as it matches with a lighter skin tone such as beige, peach, light blue and green.

If you want your pale complexion to stand out, choose deep, dark colours like black or burgundy for that vampire-esque look.

Fair Skin Tone

With so many choices, don’t be afraid to experiment with vibrant yet subtle colours such as medium-toned purples, darker pink, blue-based reds like magenta, and soft oranges shades.

For fair/lighter skin tones, you have the luxury of having a variety of colours to choose from.

White, beige and silver – especially through French tips – are also a must for special occasions.

Tanned Skin Tone

To enhance your beautiful natural tan, go for brighter colours. These colours include purple, light blue, pink, tangerine, and even light shades of brown such as caramel or chocolate.

The striking contrasts well with tanned complexions and your nails will stand out from a far.

Try to avoid neutral and/or gold colours as these will blend in with your skin and your nails will lose their vibrancy.

Medium/Olive Skin Tone

Olive-medium/dark skin tones suit best with brighter colours such as baby blue, lilac, vibrant orange, silver, and anything with glitter.

If you have medium/olive skin tone, your choice of colours is endless as you can rock both vibrant and darker shades.

For olive skin tones, peach and gold colours work well due to your warm yellow undertones and hues.

Dark Skin Tone

Colours such as dark red, vibrant or deep purple, green and blue, and gold is a must for darker complexions.

For your darker skin tone, deep shades of colours will create a sophisticated and sexy look.

Bright, neon colours may take away the colour out of rich dark tones, however it is not impossible to wear but, be careful with super fluorescent colours.

  1. Tanned skin tone refers to a sun-kissed complexion resulting from exposure to sunlight. Typically, it features a warm undertone, ranging from light golden to deeper bronze hues. This skin tone suits earthy tones such as olive greens and warm browns, enhancing the natural warmth. Vibrant colors like turquoise and coral can also complement tanned skin, creating a lively contrast. Additionally, neutral shades like beige and camel provide a timeless elegance. Overall, understanding and embracing the warm undertones are key to choosing flattering colors for tanned skin tones.
