Drink Coffee for Glowing Skin? A Nutritionist Says Yes.

Nutritionist Lola Berry says you should drink coffee for glowing skin.

Lola Berry is a much loved Australian nutritionist, yoga guru, and all-round holistic health expert.

Her fantastic new book Beauty Food provides recipes, tips and tricks to nourish the body from the inside out.

These are her top 3 ingredients for glowing skin.

With the skin absorbing about 65% of what you put on it topically, Lola says these ingredients are great not only for consumption, but also for masks and scrubs.

 

COFFEE

Lola advocates coffee because it contains so many antioxidants.

However, don’t go running out to get a large cappuccino with two sugars – Lola says coffee should be taken black (or with a dash of almond milk) and without sugar.

Lola also recommends only drinking 1 or 2 cups a day, as over-doing it on the caffeine can overstimulate the stress hormone cortisol and disrupt your sleep patterns.

As well as drinking coffee black, Lola also uses coffee in smoothies and body scrubs.

 

EXTRA VIRGIN OLIVE OIL

Olive Oil is a great addition to any skin routine as it can be used topically for faster for softer, smoother skin, and to aid in healing.

Lola says olive oil has been shown to help heal eczema, prevent UV damage, and also have anti-ageing effects.

The many benefits of using Olive Oil for the skin are due to it containing squalene, a natural antioxidant and emollient (skin-softener) that isn’t found in many other food sources.

Lola suggests adding a capful of olive oil into a hot bath, applying topically after showering, or as an ingredient in a face mask or body scrub.

 

WALNUTS

Walnuts are great for the skin because of their healthy fat components – monounsaturated fats and omega 3 fatty acids – which help the skin retain moisture.

Walnuts also contain vitamin E, which is essential for smooth, glowing skin, and protein, which assists with tissue repair.

Add walnuts into a salad, vegie pasta, or paleo brownie recipe to reap the benefits of this super-food for skin.
