Mindful Drinking.

Heard that phrase lately? Its has been around a while, but it is having a resurgance.

It’s all about not giving up the booze completely, but being conscious of why, when and what your intentions are when drinking, and how you are affected by alcohol.

So instead of just walking into a bar, ordering a drink and sitting down with your pal, mindful drinking is about asking yourself why you are going drinking with your mate, how many you are planning to have and why, and ensuring you stick to your intentions.

In addition to the usual invitations I receive to new beauty product launches, my inbox has been filling up with invites to the launch of new alcoholic drinks. But these aren’t just any drinks, they’re low alcohol spirits aimed to help people reduce their alcohol intake and their calorie consumption. 

At the recent launch of Ketel One’s Botanical range(which is low in booze and calories), I was chatting to one of the guy’s behind the brand. He is based in the Netherlands. He’s an interesting guy, as he travels the world attending parties to launch bars, booze and restaurants.

But what caught my attention was that he doesn’t drink a lot. And he’s into a lot of healthy practises including Wim Hof.

He explained it like this “to not drink at all means you have no fun, and I’ve never seen anyone capable of not drinking and having a dance in a club at 1am. And the creative conversations you have when drinking ARE different. But the idea of drinking all the time just because it’s there? It’s not me anymore.

I’m hearing the same thing quite literally all over the world. 

People are becoming more conscious, and yes, mindful. Part of the mindful journey is feeling and knowing how alcohol is affecting your mind and body.

There has been a lot of chat about giving it up for year, but mindful drinking is a different approach. Some food (or drinks) for thought take into 2020.
