John Frieda Violet Crush Purple Shampoo

John Frieda Violet Crush Purple Shampoo in washing basket with purple loofa and white fluffy towel

Review by: BB Writer Zoe Bradbury

Hair Type: Colour-treated blonde hair

Fragrance: Fresh and Floral

RRP: $18 for shampoo

Positives:

As an artificial blonde, I’m no stranger to the sight of purple water cascading off my locks into the shower drain below. It’s all an attempt to maintain that elusive blonde shade that I’ve spent hundreds of dollars at the salon procuring in the first place, and in turn, avoid the dreaded yellow brassy tinge.

Lathering easily and smelling beautifully fresh, Violet Crush felt luxurious to apply, like a treatment for the hair. I left the shampoo in for longer than I normally would, so as to enhance the toning qualities.

My hair was noticeably brighter and whiter, my colour neutralised from a slight brassiness to a renewed blonde look, thanks to the intense new violet formula that contains patented technology that allows the pigment to deeply penetrate into the hair cortex.

It was similar to my hair in the weeks following my first salon-dye treatment, and it was only after one wash. My hair was also softer and smelt clean and fresh.

A high maintenance hair style is simply made easier with at home products like this. Reduce the brassiness at home and reduce the number of visits to the salon. It’s that easy

Negatives:

Because of the intense purple colour, spilling this onto white tiles may stain them.

Pantene Pro-V Intense Rescue Shots

3 Pantene Pro V Intense Rescue Shots displayed in a box.

Review by: BB Writer Zoe Bradbury

Hair Type: Dry, brittle or damaged hair from heat and colouring

Fragrance: Clean and fruity

RRP: $6 for pack of 3 tubes.

Positives:

As someone who straightens my hair almost daily, and has applied a fair bit of colour dye to my locks, my hair is often left feeling damaged and brittle, with split ends abundant and my hair breaking off easily.

It means I’m often searching for a new treatment or hair mask to combat any damage.

While this isn’t an actual shampoo, the Pantene Pro-V Intense Rescue Shots are an amazing treatment to deeply condition and repair damaged hair.

Used after shampooing and conditioning, I applied the single-use ampoule all over my hair, the product smelling fruity, yet refreshing and clean.

Almost instantly, even in the shower, my hair was softer.

After drying and in the days following was when I really noticed the difference – my hair was noticeably smoother and shinier.

It was also less frizzy and didn’t look as dull or lack lustre.

I’m definitely going to incorporate this treatment into my weekly haircare routine for added nourishment, hydration and TLC for my colour and heat-damaged locks.

Negatives:

As this is an ampoule, it means the intense formula comes in a one-use, little squeeze tube. This makes me weary of the amount of plastic waste that would come with using this product.

Oribe Shampoo And Conditioner For Moisture and Control

Oribes New Moisture and Control Collection in a flatlay with emerald green backdrop.

Reviewed by: BB Editor Renae Leith-Manos

Hair type: Curly or thick hair

Fragrance: Rich, strong and luxurious

RRP: $46 for shampoo $72 for conditioner

Positives:

You only need a very small amount to later up the shampoo. It smells heavenly and soaps up easily.

This brand is one of the industry’s most decadent hair care bards globally at this time.

All of the shampoos I have so-far tried are fairly rich and can weigh hair down if you use too much, so the secret is using small amounts.

The packaging is beautiful, as is the fragrance, and the whole experience is one of luxury with any Oribe products.

My daughter has very thick, curly hair and she loves this range, which is excellent for denser hair, as she can wash her hair and still smell the fragrance days later.

It helps maintain moisture in her very long hair, even in extreme weather conditions.

The conditioner also goes a long way, and work well to de-tangle curly hair, always an issue for her.

Negatives:

It is rich, so you don’t need much – which is actually a positive as it lasts.

Shea Moisture Argan Oil and Almond Milk

Reviewed by: BB Editor Renae Leith-Manos

Hair type: Fine hair with damage

Fragrance: Pleasant and creamy fresh

RRP: $22 for shampoo and conditioner

Positives:

This is brilliant for enriching and smoothing my ultra-dry thin hair.

I have lots of hair, but it is fine and dry on the ends.

It has taken me a while to find shampoo and conditioner that actually replenishes the dry hair but doesn’t weight down the fine hair at the same time.

Multiple balayages have damaged my hair, but this product pair is getting it back to what it was.

The shampoo feels enriching and moisturising when I use it, so I usually shampoo twice, and really lather it up the second time.

I also leave it on the hair for at least 60 seconds each time to really soak in.

My hair feels clean after two shampoos, but not stripped, as it can with other more drying shampoos.

The conditioner is creamy and comes with a pump which makes it easy to measure and access when I am in the shower.

The conditioner isn’t heavy but still manages to detangle and smooth my hair, leaving it tangle free and feeling moist on the ends.

I usually use conditioner only on the ends which are dry, which at this time is the last 1.5 inches.

I have also used the conditioner on my hair ends when the hair was dry and left it overnight to replenish the hair ends, which also worked well.

Negatives:

None for my hair type.

Maui Moisture Heal and Hydrate + Shea Butter

Maui Moisture Heal And Hydrate Shampoo and conditioner product images.

Reviewed by: BB Writer Anisha Rapthi

Hair type: Dry, damaged hair

Fragrance: Coconuts

RRP: $44 for shampoo and conditioner

Positives:

After only one wash with this Maui Moisture shampoo and conditioner, I could already see a massive improvement with my hair.

My hair is naturally wavy, slightly frizzy and a little bit dry.

After using these products for a month straight my hair has never felt healthier.

The miracle ingredient – shea butter, helped to not only nourish my hair but tame my frizz and also give my locks a healthy shine.

The shea butter also worked to mend any damaged, split ends and has proven to gift me some of the softest hair I’ve had in a very long while.

I am the type of person who is always reaching for my hair straightener to smooth out my frizzy waves but since using these products consistently, I can confidently say that I am way more comfortable wearing my natural hair in public.

What I most love about these products is that the results are instant, there is no need to wait a few weeks for them to work their magic.

Negatives:

I would love for the strength of the scent in this product to last longer on my hair after a wash.

Function Of Beauty

Reviewed by: BB Writer Anisha Rapthi

Hair type: curly, thick and damaged.

Fragrance: Peaches

RRP: $80 for shampoo and conditioner

Positives:

What I absolutely adore about the Function of Beauty hair products is that they are totally customisable.

By taking a short quiz online, you can pick what hair goals you are striving to achieve, what your favourite scent is and what colour you want your hair products to be.

You simply click buy and within weeks the gorgeous bottles arrive at your doorstep.

After using Function of Beauty for approximately 3 weeks, I found that my hair was looking ultra-healthy.

The restorative qualities of these products are truly amazing.

I was left with very little split ends, my hair felt light and airy and best of all, my monstrous waves were tamed to look like salon-styled curls.

I also found that the quality of the results when using my hot hair tools, such as my straightener and curler, were of a much higher calibre.

Negatives:

Some may find that these products are quite expensive, but I personally believe that the results are certainly worth the price.
