Is There A Self-Tan That Smells Good? :

Dear Bondi Beauty,
I haven’t been able to find a self-tanning product which smells nice or doesn’t stain the sheets. Every time I try one out, there is always a funny smell to the product and I hate changing my sheets the morning after tanning.
Is there a self-tan I can buy that doesn’t smell bad and won’t rub off on my sheets please?
Thank you, Sarah, Dover Heights

Hi Sarah,

Yes, there are several great self-tanning products you can use which have varying different smells and won’t stain the sheets, or your clothing.

At-home self-tanners and bronzers have come a long way since they first launched in the 1960s. Known then as Quick Tan, they were often associated with a bad smell and made the skin look way to orange to look natural. and forget about using white sheet for towels – yuck! They would always stain. Now self-tan ranges from the delicious tropical scents of coconut beaches and pineapple cocktails, to watermelon smoothies.

We recommend using a foam or mousse-based self-tanner as these absorb quickly into the skin, leaving skin super dry after only a minute of application. This means you can dress straight away and it won’t stain your clothes, sheets or towels.

The following three self-tanning products and bronzers smell incredible, are easy to apply and we promise, they will absolutely not stain the sheets, towels or clothing.

For a tropical scent, use the Hawaiin Tropic Self-Tanning Foam RRP $18.99. If you’re sick of tropical scents, then try St Tropez Watermelon Infused Self-Tan Bronzing Mousse RRP $59.99. Love the smell of a candy store? Then you’ll want the NEW B.Tan Disco Candy 1-Hour Mousse Self-Tan RRP $14.99 which smells like candy and is sweat proof too.

How do I go from brunette to blonde? :

Dear Bondi Beauty,
I have medium brown coloured hair, and I want to go blonde for Spring, to lighten things up a bit for the warmer months. I have never gone lighter before and I am unsure what steps to take before making such a dramatic change to my natural hair colour. What sorts of things do I need to know before making the switch from brunette to blonde?
Thank you, Rachel, Lilyfield

Hi Rachel,

Firstly, book yourself in for a consultation at your hairdresser. Or if you don’t have one, look one up online and read the reviews on colours. Some salons specialise in colour changing hair and are masters at creating fantastic new looks to change the colour of your natural locks – safely.

There are lot of things to know before making the switch from dark to light, as a lot of chemicals are required to strip your natural colour. And for some hair types, a few treatments may be required to get the desired blonde tone you are after. Especially if you have virgin hair, where your natural colour has never been coloured before and doesn’t strip right away.

It’s also important to have the right at home maintenance routine in place to care for your new blonde locks, as your hair will be a lot dryer than normal after stripping all the nutrients and colour. Transitioning from dark to light always requires a little more TLC than when you go from light to dark.

So whatever your hairdresser tells you to do at home, do it. And use the products they recommend for upkeep as well. If you follow their advice, your hair should stay happy and healthy whilst blonde.
