OMG: Active-wear which helps you lose weight? Rubbish.

From weight-loss pills, to active-wear which helps you lose weight, every year something new hits the news, telling you how to lose weight and fast.

And if something sounds too good to be true, it probably is, especially when it comes to losing weight.

Here are 5 health trends to avoid this year:

The One Ingredient Diet:

If a diet or eating plan is telling you to only eat one type of a food, chances are it’s a bad fad. Your body needs a variety of foods to help keep you strong and healthy. So, eating just one thing is not going to help your body sustain optimal health. Foods like grains, healthy fats and protein help the body thrive. So, eat real food and avoid diets which have you skipping entire food groups to lose weight.

Toning Active-wear:

If a wonder weight-loss pill wasn’t enough, now there’s fitness apparel which helps you lose weight. From shoes to help you tone as you walk, to sports bras which burn fat whilst exercising, there’s nothing short of the range of miracle fitness gear available to help you lose weight faster than your average workout.

Juice & Tea Cleanse:

Cleansing the body from toxins with juice and herbal teas sounds convincing, but is it really good for your body? Probably not. The truth is, when you’re eating the right food, your liver and kidney will function properly and cleanse the body of any nasty toxins anyway. So instead of traumatising the body into a liquid diet, try cutting out any unnecessary processed foods and excessive alcohol from your diet instead.

Gluten-Free

Unless you’re allergic or intolerant to gluten, there is really no reason to cut gluten from your diet. And gluten-free doesn’t always mean it’s healthy. Many healthy grains and rices contain gluten, which aren’t bad for you, unless of course you are allergic or intolerant. And as the old saying goes, everything in moderation right? If you don’t need to eat the extra slice of bread then don’t.

Fat Burners

A tablet which promises to help you shed 10 pounds in a week without a good diet or any exercise is not good for you. Even if there is research to back claims supporting the effectiveness of the magic pill. Results have been known to be rather negligible and provide an illusion to those taking it, that it’s okay to have that extra slice of chocolate cake. Healthy weight loss is about real food, exercise and balance.
