Lose weight fast with this cardio workout

Orangetheory is the newest cardio workout to lose weight fast.


The sessions are tough, they’re intense and you’ll get super sweaty. But if you are looking for a cardio workout to get serious  fitness and weight loss results, this is for you.

Orangetheory is a relatively new concept to Aussie shores that has fitness fanatics sweating all over America in 600 outlets and now it has opened its doors in Bondi.

With its rapidly growing reputation for offering a hard core, high intensity cardio workout that actually works, the Bondi Beauty team braved up and thought we’d better try it.

The Workout

Orangetheory goes back to basics, combining treadmills, rowers, free weights and TRX suspension ropes for a group workout with both cardio and strength focuses.

During our 60-minute class of about 15 members, half was spent on the treadmill, the other was a cardio and resistance circuit.

Throughout each station, we were instructed to find our ‘base level’ (an effort sustainable for 10 minutes) and were pushed through different length intervals at ‘push level’ (uncomfortable) or ‘all out’ (really hard).

The Orangetheory concept is based on each individual pushing themselves to their own limits. The Bondi Beauty team were each going at totally different speeds and intensities during the session and we all left feeling sufficiently exhausted and totally sweaty (a sign of a great workout).

The Difference

What makes Orangetheory different is that all members are strapped up with heart rate monitors, with individual stats published on a scoreboard.

The result? All participants are accountable for the intensity and effort they’re committing to the session.

The ultimate aim during every Orangetheory class is to get into the “orange zone” (above 84% of your maximum heart rate) for at least 12-20 minutes of the hour session. This period spent in the orange zone represents optimal EPOC (excess post-exercise oxygen consumption), meaning you’ll continue to burn calories at an increased rate, long after finishing the class.

All members are sent their physiological results via email after each class to track individual progress over the weeks.

An added bonus to Orangetheory is that whenever members are exercising outside the studio, they can use the brands app to log their session results- meaning that they can continually check their progress whilst training both in and out of the studio.

The Verdict

The team ranged fairly widely in fitness levels and exercise experience, but we all walked away feeling as though we had pushed ourselves to our own individual limits.

The Orangetheory concept is built on ensuring members are accountable and push themselves hard during every cardio workout session and this model has been highly effective for achieving incredible fitness results.
