Dear Bondi Beauty,
How can I get rid of unwanted facial hair, is waxing the best method, or are there other products I can use at home which don’t hurt like waxing that I can use?
Mary, Penrith.

Hi Mary,

Unwanted facial hair can be pesky and difficult to get rid of it you don’t know what you are doing. The best idea is to find a method you are most comfortable with and master it.  The most common at-home methods are waxing, dermaplaning, bleaching and IPL (also known as laser hair removal).

Waxing is very accessible and lasts a long time (4-6 weeks) however it does come with a fair dose of pain especially if you haven’t mastered the technique. Nad’s Facial Wax Strips make waxing at home much less scary plus the strips are formulated for sensitive skin.

If you’re looking for something with no pain involved dermaplaning is the way to go. LUX SKIN Dermaplaning Set glides across your face removing unwanted hair, peach fuzz as well as exfoliating dead skin.  While the hair will grow back faster than waxing it is totally pain-free.

Bleaching is a pain-free solution that doesn’t actually remove hair rather disguises it. It also has the benefits of not having to wait for regrowth plus it is so easy. ANDREA Gentle Crème Bleach is incredibly gentle on sensitive skin while giving the illusion of being hair-free.

IPL is a long-term solution for removing unwanted hair. It uses light energy to break down the hair cells giving you a smooth finish. While not completely painless many say it hurts less than waxing with longer-lasting results. HappySkin Gen.2 IPL Hair Removal Handset is one of the great options on the market, while it is an investment it will last you forever.

Dear Bondi Beauty,
When I wear sunscreen on my face, it clogs my skin and I get breakouts. How can I stop this from happening, is there a special sunscreen for the face which won’t clog pores and cause breakouts?
Becky, Manly.

Hi Becky,

When it comes to sunscreen there are 2 different types, chemical and physical sunscreens. Often physical sunscreens can cause breakouts due to the minerals that sit on top of your face often blocking pores, this is not to say all physical sunscreens cause this. Mecca Cosmetic To Save Face SPF50+ Superscreen Oxybenzone Free Formula is a great chemical sunscreen that has reef-safe ingredients that won’t break you out.

Another reason could be that the texture of the sunscreen is too thick and doesn’t allow your skin to breath underneath.  If the sunscreen you are using has the texture of a lotion maybe it is time to try something else. La Roche Posay Anthelios Invisible Fluid SPF 50+ has the most lightweight texture and is non-comedogenic meaning it won’t clog your pores.

Fragrance is also a big offender when it comes to your skin breaking out. While everyone wants their skincare products to smell great fragrance is often not compatible with sensitive skin as it can lead to irritation due to the harsh ingredients.  Dermalogica Solar Defense Booster SPF50 50ml is free from fragrance and is a cult favourite of the beauty community.

Sunscreen is very personal when it comes down to it so it may take some experimenting to find the one that is right for you. Click here for our review of sunscreens for this summer.

Our Fave Beauty Product of the Week:

Yuzu Lemon + Ginseng Brightening Jelly Cleanser RRP $10.99, Yuzu Lemon + Dragonfruit Brightening Exfoliation Scrub RRP $9.99, and Yuzu Lemon + Papaya Brightening Clay Mask RRP $7.99

Zingingy Zang, I love when a product Zings. Sounds like a classic hallmark song from the movie Bedknobs and Broomsticks? Well that is how I feel when I use a Biore product. Whether it be their cleanser or their mask, the gratifying sensation of the skin tingling makes me feel like the product is really working to cleanse the skin.

And isn’t it satisfying to feel the skin tingle as the product frizzes away all the dirt and grime – am I right?

I trialed all three for several weeks, as my key skincare treatment products both AM and PM for a fresh zingy tingle to clean out my pores and revitalise my skin – perfect in hot weather.

The cleanser uses wax massaging beads to target, dissolve and remove stubborn pore build-up and dirt without over-cleansing for fresh, bright, breathable skin. It’s soft and silky on THE skin and smells like a fruity summer cocktail.

The exfoliation scrub is a natural exfoliant which deeply cleanses the skin, re-texturises and revitalises uneven skin tones, while visibly reducing the appearance of pores for an instant brightness boost. Great for sensitive skin, and perfect for congested skin. Smells like A smoothie breakfast bowl.

The mask is made with a natural AHA fruit acid designed to lift dead skin cells and surface debris, while brightening the look of the skin for a smoother and more radiant complexion. My fave of the three products, my skin looks smoother and fine lines are reduced, with a massive reduction in congestion – winning.

Like all Biore products, your skin will tingle as the products work to frizz and bubble away all the dirt and grime stuck in your pores.
