Balance Your Blood Sugar With This Easy Smoothie Recipe

Green Smoothie Recipe to Control Blood Sugar

An expert-approved smoothie recipe to help balance blood sugar.

Gabrielle Newman, nutritionist and recipe developer for The Fast 800 shares her expert-approved green mint smoothie recipe designed to help balance blood sugar levels.

Adding leafy greens, like spinach or kale, to your smoothies and shakes not only increases their nutrient profile and adds extra fibre, it also helps to balance your blood sugar. We often cook dark leafy greens which reduces the availability of water-soluble nutrients but by keeping them raw we can absorb these nutrients like B vitamins and vitamin C.

Fibre is the indigestible carbohydrates present in the cell walls of fruits, vegetables and whole grains. A fibre-rich diet reduces risks of cardiovascular disease and improves gut motility.

It also provides prebiotics to feed your gut bacteria and help produce short-chain fatty acids which counter obesity and diabetes by acting against inflammation.

These shake recipes can be made with water or milk (be it unsweetened almond milk or full fat dairy) to suit your calorie intake on fasting or non-fasting days. Using milk increases calories, but also increases protein and fat content to improve satiety and keep you feeling fuller for longer.

This smoothie has been formulated to provide you with adequate protein and fibre to make them suitable for keeping you full on fasting days as well.
