Hemp Beauty: Does Is Actually Work?

the best hemp beauty products

We trial the latest revolutionary hemp beauty products to put them to the test and find out if they really work.

The benefits of using a hemp beauty products? Rich in essential fatty acids, hemp seed oil in beauty products provides a healthy dose of hydration for parched skin, can work to heal skin conditions like dermatitis and eczema, and can even tackle unruly breakouts too.

For tackling dry skin and acne prone skin in particular, hemp beauty products containing a rich does of hemp seed oil, is fast becoming a popular skin care essential item.

But of course, like any anything, the question remaining on the lips of anyone yet to jump on the hemp beauty bandwagon is: Does it actually work?

With so many brands now releasing their own version of a hemp infused beauty product, we’ve road tested a few key brands to determine whether or not they work.

To add legitimacy to this trial, I opted to trial using hemp beauty products only for a full week to see what the results would be like. This meant I used nothing but hemp in a cleanser, a face oil, a serum and face cream.

I have combination skin. So depending on what the weather is like and what I eat, my skin will fluctuate from being either more oily or more dry in the t-zone area of the face.

So, breakouts are common at that time of the month and when there are rapid weather changes and if I wear a full face of makeup all day which will clog and congest my pores.

How do I rate the trial of using hemp beauty products for a full week? Simply amazing. In-fact., I am seriously considering rethinking my whole facial routine to ensure I include more hemp products.

As a beauty writer, it can be super challenging to stick to one type of skincare routine. But I find the older I get, the more I need to fine-tune the products I am using to really help me combat the signs of ageing, and focus on using only what really works for my skin type, to help me have better looking, healthier looking and younger looking skin.

Alongside retinol, vitamin C & B, and collagen – I am now going to be adding hemp beauty into the mix.

Here’s what the team had to say about the hemp beauty products they trialled.

Alivio Glycolic Facial Cleanser RRP $39.95

This fabulous Glycolic Acid rich formula provides an effortless cleanse to your skin and is an effective exfoliation which evens skin tone and clear congestion. Using organic Aloe juice and Hemp oil moisturise whilst calming Cucumber and Green Tea extracts which helps leave skin refreshed, balanced and renewed.

I love a good glycolic cleanser mostly as you can feel the product working, as it tingles on the skin eating through all that icky congestion and burning away dead skin cells. Okay so the word burning might not be the right choice, as it’s not exactly burning the skin. But it is eating through the dead skin cells, and this cleanser with the added benefits of acne clearing and skin toning hemp, means you will feel as though you have just visited an expensive day spa after use.

Rawkanvas Remedy Caling Hemp Body Oil RRP $55

A lightweight, non-clogging body and hair oil that promises to reduce the appearance of stretch marks, keep skin supple and relaxed, and is supported by active ingredients including Hemp Seed Oil, Camellia Oil and Jojoba Oil.

I’ll admit, I was intrigued. An oil I could use for both my skin and hair. Though I do have fairly dry hair most of the time, I’ve never really been one to drench my hair with oils prior to washing or to let it sit in my hair overnight, so hair can soak in all the nourishing ingredients whilst sleeping. Skin sure, I use body oils often, so I was interested to try this oil in my hair, as this is an entirely knew regime I wanted to start experimenting with this year.

The oil has been blended with Bergamot, Sweet Orange and Ylang Ylang essential oils, so it smells amazing and I loved the feel of it it my hair. It’s a little awkward and messy to apply. I left in my locks for 45 minutes before washing out. Hair was definitely more hydrated and softer to to the touch after washing and then drying. A great product to add into your daily routine.

Burt’s Bees Moisturing Lip Balm – Hemp RRP $6.95

Rich in vitamin E due to the hemp seed oil, this lip balm works to soften the lips so that they feel super hydrated and healthy.

BB Writer Anisha says: “I trialled this product for 3 weeks, and found the balm applied to the lips easily and had a pleasant, fresh basil scent. My lips are always dry but this lip balm definitely helped to keep them feeling soft and moisturised throughout the day.

I also trialled the Burt’s Bees Hemp Hand Cream RRP $8.99 for a week and found the texture of the cream light-to-medium in consistency and smelt of verbena and basil. A little goes a long way with this product and left my hands feeling ultra-soft, as well as giving them a dewy appearance. Whilst I did need to re-apply once or twice throughout the day, my hands have never felt more hydrated.

Shea Moisture Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Oil Shampoo & Conditioner RRP $11.99 each

The formula uses THC and CBD seed oil to deliver nourishing moisturisation for hair. It is sulphate and paraben free.

BB Writer Montana says: “I used this shampoo and conditioner for a month. It smells super fresh and light. With a tinge of citrus scent, in my opinion it smells exactly like a  Lemon, Lime and Bitters drink.

Often once I have washed my hair it goes quite frizzy, but this product really softened my hair. My ends became less dry which is an added bonus as my hair was fallen victim to bleach and excessive direct sun recently.”

BB Writer Anisha also trialled the Shea Moisture Cannabis Sativa Hemp Seed Oil Leave in Treatment RRP $29.95 and says: “This spray had a strong scent of ginseng from the ginseng root extract. It promises to deliver soft, luscious hair, moisturising not only the scalp but hydrating the lengths and ends of the follicles to promote healthy thick hair.

As I have quite dry ends and an oily scalp, I preferred to use this product just on the lengths of my hair. It worked well to moisturise the ends and left my hair with a bit more body after drying.

Bare Body Beauty Co Hemp RRP Hemp Face Moisturiser $48

Designed to enhance skin hydration and balances the natural pH level in your skin which helps to protect against dry and sensitive skin, sun damage, fine lines and breakouts.

I trialled this product for over a month, until there was none left and loved using every single drop of the area, until there was absolutely nothing left. I literally scrapped the barrel with this product LOL.

It smells so luxurious, and the texture is smooth and silky, creating the illusion of an expensive day spa every time I used the cream. Though made with hemp seed, it is also infused with Green tea extract, coenzyme Q10, Sunflower oil, Shea butter, Macadamia oil, natural, vitamin E and soya bean oil – so it smells absolutely delicious and skin stays hydrated all day long.

I also noticed an improvement in skin tone and a reduction in congested pores, which is great. It meant less breakouts.

Though not a new product by The Body Shop, and one of the originals in the hemp range globally by any brand, this hand cream helps to soften and protect dry hands and has been doing so for many years now.
