How EMS, a European Fitness Trend Will Get You The Body and Posture You Want.

Electronic Muscle Stimulation (EMS) is a fitness trend that will give you the body and posture you want, and one workout is just 20 minutes.

It sounded like a crazy idea when I first heard of EMS in Paris a few years ago where it is a massive fitness trend. Over there, it is the most popular fitness trend with EMS workout centres in every street corner. The Europeans love the idea you can workout for just 20 minutes and achieve incredible results.

Eight weeks into my twice weekly sessions at Inpuls in Bondi Junction, it’s a fitness session I can’t live without and my body is thanking me for it on a daily basis.

EMS works by sending low-frequency electric impulses to contract your muscles while you’re working out, which means the smaller muscles other workouts don’t reach are given a big workout using EMS.

The history of this type of fitness goes back to the Egyptians who found vibrating fish (true story!) worked to relieve muscle pain.

Today the modern version of this trend burns up to 500 calories a session, and helps strengthen the muscles in all of the body. It transforms the way the way the body moves, and feels and makes other forms of exercise much easier as the muscles are stronger.

Inpuls, Bondi Junction Director Christoph Mauss explains:

“There is no ideal client really because we all need this. Some people want to start exercising and don’t know how to start. This is perfect because you get personalised training with a maximum of just 2 people in any class.

Others just want to enhance their athletic performance, like running, cycling or yoga. EMS activates all little stabilising muscle and of course will give you more endurance. Not only are we working on strength with Inpuls EMS, but also on flexibility and cardio.  Inpuls EMS is a complete exercise solution for someone who does not want to do anything else. “

Christoph says it has been around for many years, but is new in Australia.

“Many people have used this technology all over the world. Olympians used it in the 1970’s to enhance their performance, and it was popularised for general use about 15 years ago and now there are over 2000 micro gyms in Europe alone.

The German soccer team use it for muscle activation and recovery. Usain Bolt, Roger Federer, and Madonna use it.”

Christoph says EMS training is excellent for pre and post surgery fitness, to strengthen the body:

“Inpuls EMS training is a fantastic way to prepare your body before surgery and of course afterwards,” he expalins.

The beauty of EMS training is that we can switch on and  off certain areas and still activate the rest of the body.

We literally can do targeted training on any area of the body. We can also do static activation in a seated position so there is no strain on the knees or hips etc. So yes, it is the best way to start to train your body after surgery and with the direction of your doctor. “
