Based in Austin, Texas, Adriene Mishler, 35, is an international yoga teacher who has been labelled the most influential yoga instructor on the planet and ‘patron saint of quarantine’ and as a result, she is a yoga celebrity in the US.

Her most popular video is “Yoga For Complete Beginners”, which has had 28 million views. 

Her yoga is about learning to use yoga techniques like breathing and self-belief to support your life journey, there’s a lot more to it than simply health and fitness.

She has over 7.5 million followers on YouTube and has founded Find What Feels Good, #FWFG, a one-stop platform for yoga exercises that can be fit into daily routines. 

Her approach is easy, approachable and quick.

This is the app that makes it easy to do yoga daily.

Asana Rebel is a Berlin-based yoga startup created in 2015 and now provides more than 200 online and in-app workouts.  

The point of difference is you have to select a goal at the beginning to  either get fitter or to lose weight. The app also offers daily ‘Today’s Workout’ programs, which makes class selection easy.

With yoga-inspired workouts forming the basis of the program, more than 1.5 million workouts are completed globally with Asana Rebel every month.

Workouts of varying intensities are also available, from simple stretches to high calorie-burning HIIT exercises, with the duration of each session varies from 4 to 40 minutes.

One drawback of the app is a robotic voice starts each class, which is then taken over by a human voice which may be a tad unnerving.

As an added plus however, the app also includes a meditation section.

Freeletics

Originating in Munich, Freeletics is a fitness app that provides users with a training schedule and sets of instructional fitness videos. 

After each workout, users give feedback and the next workout is then adjusted according to the responses.

No workout equipment is required. Upon sign-up, Freeletics asks users to select a fitness goal from ‘Get Toned’, ‘Get Fit’ and ‘Lose Weight’, while noting additional personal details such as gender, height and weight. 

With over 40 million downloads, the app customises the user experience by identifying individual fitness goals and (current) exercise frequency. 

The app adapts to the user by analysing their fitness progress over time. Each time a user completes weekly workouts, an improved personalised plan is generated for the following week through the power of AI coaching. 

Upgrading to the coach option offers a program for an area of just 2×2 to train in.

The app also provides digital nutritional coaching and tailored meal plans to encourage clean eating. Recipes are aligned with the user’s fitness goals, whether that be improving overall health, gaining muscle or weight loss. 

Frame

Price: $19.99/month

Fitness type: Toning, Flexibility, Weight Loss

Point of Difference: They promise endorphins on demand, and they have their own activewear created in collaboration with Whistles.

Based in London, and founded by kiwi Joan Murphy a decade ago, Frame is a boutique fitness brand with a cult following and studios dotted around London visited by 10,000 a week pre-covid.

They operate an academy where they train their instructors.

Their ‘On Demand’ program is accessible to users for $19.99 a month, and gives access to all classes under the catalogue.  

Workouts are party-style and high energy including 80s aerobics themes, “Bodyweight HIIT”, and “Boxfit”.

Users are ready to start with a yoga mat, and can choose from a variety of classes that target different parts of the body.

A subscription allows users access to instructional videos spanning HIIT, barre, cardio, Pilates and boxing. 

Frame also segments its exercises so users can easily find the best programs. Categories include ‘Sweat’, ‘Party’, ‘Sculpt’, ‘Pre + Post Natal’ and ‘Chill’. 

Peloton

Price: $12.99/month with free 30 day trial 

Based in: New York, USA

Point of Difference: Conveniently high-powered workouts that promise an ultra-immersive training experience.  

For those wanting to get involved with Peloton, there is now no need to visit a Peloton studio in New York. 

Those wanting to take the plunge and invest in a Peloton Bike can do so for $39 a month, which unlocks all the benefits of Peloton’s All-Access membership. This membership requires the purchase of the Peloton Bike.

Users can use from a range of ‘Bike Experiences’ when looking to purchase a Peloton Bike. The ‘Basics’ package, which includes the Peloton Bike itself, a 1 year limited warranty and a delivery and assembly service will set customers back $2245.

Although Peleton is well-known for their Peloton bikes and intensive cycling workouts, their on-demand fitness routines also consist of a combination of running exercises, strength training, yoga and even dance cardio. 

Through their in-app program Peleton Digital, user gain access to a library of thousands of live and on-demand classes for $12.99 a month, with 14 classes added daily. There is also no need for equipment to get started – all that is required is a tablet or laptop to follow the instructional videos. 

Users can access these classes anytime and anywhere, and they can also select a workout through filtering by class type, workout length, music genre and intensity level. 

There are workouts specialised for beginners, which consist of low-impact introductory classes, and those targeted towards intermediate to advanced users.

These include Climb (which builds strength through intense resistance exercises), Power Zone (to build up endurance, strength and speed) and Intervals & Arms (to boost arm strength, speed and endurance through HIIT weight segments).
