Is Crystal Beauty What It’s All Cracked Up To Be?

are crystal-infused beauty products really worth it

Harness the power of crystals with beauty in your skincare products.

Holistic beauty has seen its fair share of trends, from DIY coconut inspired body scrubs to essential oil infused olive oils for cleansing the skin. But the latest, and most popular crazy trend seen world-wide right now, is crystal-infused beauty products.

Though not exactly new to the beauty industry, with popular beauty brands such as Herbivore and Cover FX having used crystals in some of their beauty products for a while now, other brands like Kora Organics and Bioré have recently jumped on the bandwagon of infusing a variety of their skincare products with crystals.

However, we should be mindful of the increasing use of crystal-infused beauty products.

Outside of the possible beauty benefits of using crystals in your skincare, crystals have a long history shrouded in both a bit of scientific evidence and of course much mysticism.

For example, meditating with crystals has long been thought to help you channel your energy better, possibly promoting better health and a state of balance to the body, both on a physical and emotional level. Though there is no real science to back this claim, many still doing believe they work.

But let’s be real. Most of us don’t really know how it all works.

Founder of Stoned Crystals in Melbourne, Ashley Bellino says we should be very careful about the way we present the power of crystals sothey are not misrepresenting them as an antidote or cure.

“I always try to ensure that the power of crystals is properly understood so that they don’t slide back into being incorrectly categorised as a ‘woo-woo’ practice or scam.

There are many genuine scientific uses for crystals – the list is endless. A couple that I have done some research on in the beauty field include Zeolites and Alum Stone. We currently sell Natural Alum Stone (A Crystal Deodorant) which has been used as far back as Ancient Egypt for its mineral astringent and disinfectant qualities.

Alum stone is a chemical free Natural Mineral Salt Crystal which acts as a deodorant not an antiperspirant. Antiperspirants will block the sweat glands, preventing any perspiring. Deodorant will neutralise the smell of any perspiring, whilst still allow a little moisture to come through and the sweat glands to breath better.

Zeolites have a specific crystalline structure that makes them very successful at detoxifying. They are an anti-inflammatory,  antioxidant, and are helpful for clearing pores.”

Holly Harding, an Integrative Nutrition Health Coach and founder of O’o in Hawaii, a new brand which uses crystals and gemstones in its formulations says, it’s believed that crystals oscillate and hold their frequencies as they have a natural ability to power and support energy fields, not only in the sub-conscious, but throughout the body as well.

“Crystals can help reduce tension, which can in turn relax facial expressions and lead to fewer lines. This is also associated with helping blood circulation, as they calm the muscles and allow for oxygen and blood to flow better throughout the body. Which makes the skin look younger and healthier.

For example, sapphire stones have long been known to help with healing qualities, producing high vibrations which help with skin healing, inflammation, calming, radiance and rejuvenation”, Holly explains.

However, that’s not to say that crystal-infused beauty isn’t entirely unsafe to use, and there are certainly loads of studies proving that it can help you with your skin concerns.

Check out these five crystal-infused beauty products that will supercharge your beauty routine.

Rare by Livkin Rose Quartz Facial Roller RRP $49

Improve blood circulation and skin tone with this lovely and luxurious rose quartz facial roller.

Using this face roller, you will noticeably see a reduction in dehydrated skin, dark circles and it will also remove toxins and improve collagen production.

TOP TIP: Roll from the centre of the face outwards until the skin stretches. Although nice to use in the morning to boost skin moisture, it’s perfect to use at the end of your nightly skincare routine, as it helps your skin absorb the products better before sleep.

As you massage the skin with the face roller, cells open up and as you have already applied your nourishing products on the skin, as you roll, they will soak deeper into the cells giving more radiant and younger looking skin.

Shining Mia Crystal Infused Face Mist RRP $25

This face mist is the perfect combination of aloe vera water, jojoba oil and bush flower essence, infused with raw crystal pieces like citrine.

My fave is the one with citrine crystals, which also has witch hazel in it and is perfect for balancing the skin tone and helping to heal blemishes and scaring. Skin feels well hydrated and nourished.

TOP TIP: Face mists are great to use throughout the day, helping to boost moisture to the skin, but did you know they are also great toners for the skin before applying any other face products.

Face Mists work as a skin prep for the pores, nourishing them, and correcting the PH balance of the skin. Spritz on the face after cleansing, and let it semi-dry, then apply your serums, oils and moisturiser and you’re good to go.

Apothecary Co. Mermaid Magic Sparkling Salt Soak RRP $29

This is a powerful bath soak, as it uses the magic of both rose quartz and salt crystals to detoxify and help you relax.

Salt is natures original and most abundant healing crystal, with over 80 minerals to detoxify energetic imprints from your daily encounters.

TOP TIP: Rose quartz calms the heart, promotes peace and love. Mixed with the added salt crystals of this salt soak, it will help detoxify the toxins of the day and melt away any stress.

Before getting into the bath, use a sponge soaked with hot water to pre-cleanse the body and remove any excess oils and dirt, in order for your skin cells to better absorb the goodies of this salt soak when you get into the bath.

Pacifica Crystal Power Hydro Mist RRP $10

You can never have enough face mists. And this is one you will absolutely want to add to your arsenal of daily skincare products.

Made with watermelon, lemongrass and rose crystal extracts in aloe water, this mist will help keep skin well hydrated and nourished throughout the day.

TOP TIP: Many people will not use face mists throughout the day over the top of makeup, as they fear the sprays will make foundation run. But nothing could be further from the truth with this face mist.

As it’s made with aloe water (as are many face mists), it won’t run makeup, but rather rehydrates the skin and refreshes makeup with one spritz. Spray at least ten cm from the face to ensure an even spray on the face over makeup and your skin will love you for it.

BIORE Rose Quartz + Charcoal Daily Purifying Cleanser RRP $10.99

Perfect for oily skin, the charcoal component of this face mask will help cleanse dirt, balance oil and heal blemishes faster.

The rose quarts component of this cleanser will heal skin, nourish and protect against bacteria, promoting younger looking skin which glows and looks younger.

TOP TIP: Always cleanse twice at the end of the day. This ensures you are removing the top layer of grease and grime which has built up from the day. Whilst the second cleanse will sink deep into the pores to remove any excess dirt and dead skin cells.

Remember, cleansing in the morning is just important, though you probably only need to cleanse once in the AM. As we sleep, dust and other skin particles get trapped in the pores, so it’s important to cleanse these away before the day starts.
