Make your own Chai Latte at home with this easy to follow recipe.
Did you know in many parts of the world, Chai is actually the word for tea? In India the western version of Chai is actually referred to as Masala, which mean spiced tea. In the western world, Chai has become a a fragrant trend-setting latte drink of ginger, cinnamon and all things nice.
What you may not realise, is when you drink your Chai Latte or Tea, your body is benefiting from all the warmed spices. As long as you don’t add any sugar that is.
Chai is generally made up of a combination of ginger, cardamom, cinnamon, fennel, black pepper, cloves, star anise and in some homemade brews you may even find some chilli has been added.
There have been multiple studies proving how beneficial Chai can be for the body, with cinnamon being known to assist with heart health, digestion and controlling blood sugar levels and ginger proving to assist the body in fighting off colds and flues.
Here’s how to make your very own Chai Latte:
Ingredients:
- Mug
- Saucer
- Milk (Oatmilk or Almond taste great with Chai Spices)
- 1/4 teaspoon of ginger
- 1/4 teaspoon of cardamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of cinnamon
- 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
- 1/4 teaspoon of nutmeg
- 1 or
2 star anise (1/4 teaspoon if you have ground star anise) - 1/4 teaspoon of ground cloves
Method:
- Fill the saucer with your chosen milk and add all the spices.
- Bring to the boil and then let it sit so the spices infuse into the milk.
- Serve in the mug (remembering to move the star anise) and enjoy.
If you have a coffee machine which can froth milk, then boil some water and mix the spices in approximately 1/4 of hot water in a coffee mug. Then choose your milk and froth away. Stir into the mug and top with cinnamon.
Of course, there are other options
Simply boil the tea in hot water and then strain, before adding to frothed milk if using a coffee machine, or boil the tea in a saucer and then strain the tea before drinking. Super easy and absolutely delicious.
