It’s the little things that can give your workout a boost.
We all need motivation when working out, and it doesn’t have to cost a fortune. Here are 5 ideas:
Runkeeper
If you’re low on cash and can’t afford a gym membership, this is the app for you. Create your own workouts or follow prescribed ones to build up fitness at your own pace. Use it to track distances and create new paths or even as a motivator as the app updates you on your progress while you run.
Music
Music is a powerful thing. A song can take you back to a place or time in a few notes or change your mood in an instant. Choose some of your favourite tracks and even some guilty pleasures for musical motivation. Stick the headphones on and you’re good to go. If you’re having trouble deciding, 8track is a great app for this. Choose a theme or tag and 8tracks will make a playlist for you. It’s as simple as that.
Gym Gear
A new outfit is never a bad thing. Even buying a new tee with some colour can really boost confidence and lift your mood. Who says you cant work out and look good at the same time.
A Smile
Turn that frown upside down. Research from the University of Kansas reveals that smiling even when you don’t feel like it can instantly improve your mood. Less muscles are used to smile than to frown so you’ll be wrinkle free too. What’s not to like?
Post workout snack
Knowing there is a tasty snack at the end of a workout will keep you going. Especially if it’s guilt free. Try something protein rich to build up those torn muscles you’ve been working hard. Slice up some banana and compliment it with almond butter on a rice cake.
