Too Busy to Work Out or Travelling? Here’s What You Can Do

There are ways to keep fit when you are too busy to workout.

How many times have business trips, travel and social weekend events disturbed your work out routine? There are ways to ensure you don’t let yourself go.

Here are five ways to overcome the dreaded stop-start of working out when you’re travelling or too busy:

  1. Plan Ahead
My mother always said, “A tidy room equals a tidy mind,” and you should apply this to your training schedule too. Plan around meetings, day excursions or the three-day trip you’ve arranged with friends to soak up the sun and float out to the Whitsundays. Get your workouts in place and assure not one goes amiss.
  2. Be Consistent
Consistency takes practice, but practice makes perfect, as the old saying goes. Don’t give yourself a hard time if you slip up here and there – balance is key. Consistency also requires the willpower to choose the healthier option when all you fancy is that gooey chocolate brownie, or the willpower to drag yourself to the gym even when you don’t feel like it, because there’s nothing better than that post-workout rush.
  3. It’s All in the Mind
My all-time favourite is positive thinking. Eliminating negative thoughts and telling yourself you can means you will. Believe what you wish to see and keep striving to make it happen. There won’t always be someone there to move you, so start learning to motivate yourself, whether that be through images, social media, an outfit, music, inspirational quotes, even post-it notes around the house. Use anything that will help remind you why you started.
  4. Anytime, Anywhere
You’re not always going to be able to find a gym while traveling and if you do, they can be rather expensive. So why not focus on bodyweight strength training? Take a walk around the place you’re visiting and find a park or a suitable area to work out. You can improvise with equipment using a sturdy tree branch or a rail for pull-ups and a bench for box jumps, plus many more.
  5. Just Move
No matter where you are, there are always options to move your body. Go for a walk around the city, run along the canal, hike that mountain, swim in the sea and take those stairs instead of the escalator.Learn to train your brain and realise you have options; it’s just a matter of choice, and yours could be to just move.
