From nourishing treatments to everyday habits, these 10 steps will help you grow, protect, and maintain healthy hair.
Want gorgeous, salon-worthy hair every day? Achieving strong, shiny, and healthy hair isn’t just about genetics—it’s about the right care routine. Whether you struggle with dryness, frizz, or breakage, this guide has everything you need to have beautiful healthy hair.
My hair is my best feature, and I feel confident in saying that. Thanks to good genes I have naturally thick hair, but it doesn’t come without its challenges. It tangles easily and takes forever to wash. Beyond genetics, there are a lot of things I need to do to achieve healthy hair, keeping i tnourished and well-maintained.

This is my 10-step guide to achieving beautiful healthy hair:
Step 1: Wash Your Hair Properly
1. Wash Your Hair Less
Washing your hair too frequently strips it of its natural oils, leading to increased oil production as your scalp tries to compensate for the loss. I wash my hair a maximum of twice a week, which allows my scalp to maintain a healthy balance of natural oils. Over washing can make hair greasier in the long run, so cutting back on washing can improve hair health.
2. Always Double Shampoo your hair
One of the best habits I’ve adopted is double shampooing. The first wash removes surface buildup, such as dirt, oil, and styling products, while the second cleanse ensures a deep clean, reaching the scalp and hair follicles. If you don’t double shampoo, you’re likely not fully cleansing your hair, which can lead to dullness and excess oil.
3. Invest in High-Quality Shampoo and Conditioner
It’s worth investing in high-quality shampoo and conditioner because drugstore products often contain silicones and sulphates that create buildup and weigh hair down. Cheaper shampoos are also diluted with water, meaning you have to use more product to achieve the same results. While high-quality products may cost more upfront, they last longer and provide much better results, keeping your hair healthier in the long run.
I swear by the Kevin Murphy Hydrate-me.rinse Conditioner, Repair-me.rinse Shampoo.
4. Let Your Conditioner Sit in your hair
To get the most out of your conditioner, apply it evenly throughout your hair and let it sit for at least two to five minutes while you continue your shower routine. This allows it to deeply penetrate and hydrate your strands. For even better absorption, towel-dry your hair after rinsing out the shampoo before applying conditioner. This removes excess water, helping the conditioner soak in more effectively.
5. Use a Microfiber Towel on your hair
Traditional towels can be too rough on hair, leading to breakage and frizz. Switching to a microfiber towel makes a huge difference, as the softer material is much gentler and helps prevent damage while drying. This simple change can significantly improve the health of your hair over time.
6. Sleep on a Silk Pillowcase
Silk pillowcases are a game changer for maintaining healthy hair. Unlike cotton pillowcases, which create friction and lead to breakage, silk provides a smooth surface that reduces tangling and frizz. Additionally, silk absorbs less bacteria and moisture, which is not only beneficial for your hair but also for your skin.

Step 2: Minimise Heat and Damage
7. Reduce Heat Styling for your hair
Excessive heat styling is one of the biggest culprits of hair damage. Whenever possible, avoid straighteners, curling irons, and even frequent blow-drying. If you must use heat, always apply a heat protectant to minimize damage. Limiting heat exposure will help your hair stay strong, shiny, and healthy in the long run.
8. Blow Dry Oily Roots
If you have an oily scalp, lightly blow-drying your roots after washing can help reduce excess oil production. Allowing hair to air-dry completely can sometimes trigger your scalp to produce more oil, making your hair greasy faster. By blow-drying just, the roots while letting the rest air dry, you can maintain a better balance.

Step 3: Nourish and Maintain Healthy Hair
9. Use Hair Oils
Incorporating hair oils into your routine can make a huge difference in moisture retention and overall hair health. I use argan oil, applying it to the tips of my hair while it’s still slightly damp after washing. You can also use hair oils on dry hair after styling to add shine or tame frizz. I swear by the L’Oreal Professional Absolut Repair Oil.
10. Get Regular Trims
Even though I don’t always follow this step myself, it’s true that regular trims help keep hair healthy. Trimming split ends prevents breakage and helps hair grow stronger and faster. Even if you’re trying to grow your hair out, getting a trim every few months will ensure that your hair stays in its best condition.
