Leather, the new gym wear basic?

Gone are the days of wearing your exercise gear solely at the gym, now it’s trendy to wear it to coffee, the shops, and even the office.

As a result, fitness brands are getting creative.

Canadian label, Lululemon Athletica has taken fitness fashion another step forward by designing a yoga clothing range to wear to the office. So you can work out and without losing time, head straight over to your 9 – 5.

The fitness label known for creating beautiful and functional athletic apparel introduced &go, has just released a collection designed for busy women with both practicality and fashion in mind.

These fab lululemon workout pants have almost sold out nationwide already.

“We know every minute counts and that women want a wardrobe that carries them seamlessly from daybreak to midnight. The versatility of the &go capsule coupled with how the product makes women feel when they wear it connects fashion with function and is what athletic style is all about,” says Tara Poseley, Chief Product Officer of Lululemon Athletica.

Unlike the glory days of 1980’s, &go steers clear of bright colours and patterns, sticking to a black, white and grey palette that easily see’s you through the day, from the office to happy hour. It includes leggings with flattering leather-look panels, leather-look shorts that will take you from “bike to the party” (actually made from stretchy, durable Warpstreme), and a super cute peplum-waist top. Prices range anywhere from $79 for tanks to $149 for pants and jackets.

The new range continues to embody everything Lululemon prides itself on – quality fabric, fit and function, and now fashion. “We are always driven to push the envelope. Our passion for innovation comes as much from within as it does from seeing what others are doing. It’s about creating the very best product and experience that we can for our guest and that is something we will never stop doing.”

While product descriptions promise breathable, water-resistant fabrics that are both “bike and boardroom friendly,” it’s copping a fair bit of flak online with critics wondering how it can possibly work in terms of, well, smells. Regardless of that, it is already proving popular with a number of pieces already sold out online and in-store.

Celebrities and models are also big fans of the range. Ashley Tisdale, Vanessa Hudgens, Reece Witherspoon, Eva Longoria, Giselle Bundchen and the Kardashian sisters are often snapped leaving the gym wearing their Lululemon gear.

And, it appears that it’s not just Lululemon who are releasing glam fitness gear. Check out our story on Jodhi Meares new label, The Upside.
