Trick yourself into eating healthier with these ten easy recipes that taste like the real thing
We all have those favourite foods that we know are bad for us but we just can’t seem to ditch. Here are some handy ways to healthify them so you don’t feel deprived.
Vegetables will always taste better when you cover them in cheese. Make your lasagne go vego by ditching the beef and add your favourite vegetables. Have fun coming up with weird and wonderful veggie combos – try onion, zucchini, squash, peppers, chopped mushrooms, olives, spinach and carrots – 8 – 10 cups should do it. Keep the rest of the recipe the same but with less cheese ( most recipes overdo it) and you won’t even miss the meat.
2. Chicken Nuggets
Toss flower, garlic, salt, pepper and chicken pieces into a bag and toss them to coat. Whisk an egg and water in a separate bowl and add organic chicken pieces mixture. Press breadcrumbs into each piece of chicken and then fry in vegetable oil over medium-high heat for eight minutes. Serve while hot and voila! Bonus points for resisting the easy option of the McDonalds drive-thru.
Make them out of carrots. Ingenious, right? Peel the carrots for a crispier experience or cut them into strips for a thicker fry. Toss them with olive oil and salt, spread in a single layer on a baking dish and cook for about ten minutes. You’ll get fibre and anti-oxidants but none of the grease
Straight from Jessica Alba’s cookbook: mix turkey, panko, carrots, zucchini onion eggs and salt in a bowl and then roll into 1-inch meatballs. Cook in olive oil in a large skillet over medium heat for seven minutes, then add ½ cup of chicken broth and cook for another seven minutes. Increase the heat to medium and then cook uncovered until the broth is absorbed. Serve hot, eat guilt-free and think about Jessica’s bod.
Throw two peeled and pitted avocados and three ripe bananas into the food processor and blend until smooth. Add unsweetened cocoa powder and vanilla and mix until combined and then leave it in the fridge for two hours. And that’s it – four guilt-free desserts. It’s so easy it feels like cheating. Gotta love a good shortcut.
