Five Reasons Avacados are good for you

From keeping your weight down to filling you with fibre, avocados have a multitude of benefits.

Avocados have many benefits for the body, and taste amazing too.

Fact One: Keep you Thin
Avocados can help control your appetite, as they are fatty. But they’re rich in monosaturated fat, the kind our bodies really need. These healthy fats help distribute certain vitamins throughout the body and can even make you feel fuller, helping control your appetite. Try substituting avocado for butter next time you’re making a sandwich.

Fact Two: Vitamin rich
Avacados contain large amounts of Vitamins E, C, and K. Vitamins E and C are great antioxidants, which means they help protect your cells from free radical damage. Vitamin C is also great for your skin and is incredibly important if you are a vegetarian as it is required to allow you to absorb iron from plant sources.

Fact Three: Fibrous
Avocados are full of fibre, both soluble and insoluble. Soluble fibre helps to reduce cholesterol re-absorption and the insoluble kind is necessary in maintaining healthy bowel function. Fibre is an incredibly important part of our diets and just ½ an avocado can provide up to 17% of the recommended daily intake for adults.

Fact Four: You can grow them yourself.
Once you’ve finished eating your avocado, instead of throwing that massive seed away, why not try and grow your own avocado tree? This can be a long process, but avocados grow well in all kinds of weather so it’s certainly worth an attempt. And it’s not a very labour intensive process.

Fact Five: Good for Pregnant Women
Avocados are rich in folate, the common name for folic acid and its derivatives, which is essential in the ‘life-cycle’ of cells. Essentially, folate is a key component in the division of living cells — something that is happening inside everyone all the time — and is even more important in foetal development, where cell division is even higher. If you’re pregnant, including avocados into your regular diet is a great idea.
