Going to the movies can be a minefield of temptation when you’re trying to stick to a health eating plan. But clean eating doesn’t have to be bland and with these five scrumptious snack swaps, you won’t get ripped off at the calorie laden sweets bar.

Swap store popcorn for homemade air popped corn.

By air popping your corn kernels in a popcorn machine or on the stove you can avoid nasty additives often found in the store bought buckets. For freshness, keep the popped corn in a brown paper bag or air tight container. Sprinkle with chilli flakes for a spicy flavour hit.

2. Swap choc-tops for chocolate covered rice crackers.

These under-rated gems are available in the health food aisle of most grocery stores. Be warned though, they are so moreish you’ll probably need to buy your movie date their own packet.

If you want to make your own, simply drizzle your favourite dark or raw chocolate over some organic rice crackers and let them set in the fridge.

3. Swap a packet of lollies for frozen blueberries.

Frozen blueberries are akin to mini sorbets. A little sugar hit with bonus antioxidants and vitamins. Bring serviettes or wet ones as this can be messy.

4. Swap crisps for kale chips.

Potato chips are food gold for anyone on a gluten free diet in need of a quick bite, however their high sodium content puts them firmly in the sometimes food corner.

Kale chips are an excellent way to sneak in a few more greens. Simply separate and wash the leaves, drizzle with your favourite oil and bake in a moderate oven until crispy. (Approx. 10 minutes). Sprinkle with almond slivers or sesame seeds for a little extra crunch.

5. Swap fizzy drinks for coconut water.

Full of electrolytes and hydrating minerals, coconut water is the on-trend food celebrities can’t get enough of. Due to popular demand, most supermarkets are now stocking coconut water in bulk as well as individual portions.
