This Autumn, pops of colour, gloss on cheeks, eyes and lips and dark lips are all on trend.  We spoke to M.A.C senior artist Carole Mackie for some insider tips.

  1. Strobing: The is basically highlighting the face’s best assets to maximum effect. “Everyone loves and looks good with a highlight,” explains Carole. “As makeup artists we’ve contoured and highlighted the skin for years and now we have new innovation in products that allows us to create a different type of dimension on the skin. Highlighting by adding luminosity that catches the light and looks like real skin rather than a strip of white sitting on the surface.”
  2. Colour Pops: For Autumn there’s even more makeup happening – just applied with different techniques and new palettes of colours. “Think of nature and you have it!– I’m seeing a lot of mustard, khaki, and greys on the eyes, muted earth tones with either matte or cream textures in organic shapes on the lid but still with individuality, so it’s a shape that’s unique to each eye that feels natural, not contrived.”
  3. What colours are in: “There’s  a fun 70’s and 80’s feel to colour when night falls,” Carole says.  “With bold complementary colours on lips and eyes and also modern worn in eyes that are a fresh take on a Smokey eye.”
  4. Eye Gloss, (but how do we do it?): Glossy eyes were all over New York Fashion Week. Carole explains how to take the plunge: “Apply M.A.C Prolongwear Paintpot, Kajol Liners or any waterproof, smudge free product over the lid in your chosen colour and dab a little M.A.C Studio Eye Gloss across the centre using your finger, try not to go too far up the eye lid as this will make the lid a little too sticky and not as comfortable.”
  5. Yellow (yes, yellow):  Carole explains: “I’m actually loving yellow this season – it’s super easy to apply this modern colour in a more natural way. Try M.A.C Satin Eyeshadow in Golden Rod applied softly over the whole lid using a #224 Brush for a sheer wash of colour. For a bright burst of colour that is not overdone –use M.A.C Chromagraphic Pencil in Primary Yellow- draw along the lash line and blend with a #219 Brush”
