What To Watch In Lockdown To Stay Sane

Netflix on tv

It’s no secret that when you have an abundance of free time, that time should be spent binging an enormous amount of Netflix from the comfort of your bed.

We asked the Bondi Beauty Team what series they are streaming right now to keep them sane during the lockdown.

Friends and The Office

The beloved Michael Scott.

Bondi Beauty Writer Anisha Rapthi:

“When I start to feel overwhelmed amidst the craziness that is Covid-19, I quite intentionally put on two of my favourite mindlessly funny television shows that keep me sane in tough times.

Friends and The Office are the shows I keep coming back to when I just want to zone out and have a giggle.

I honestly believe there is nothing like a good belly laugh to put things in perspective and help diffuse your anxiety.

With the current lifestyle we are all having to live, it is nice to be able to still have things to rely on like your favourite TV series that simply haven’t changed.

If you have a Stan account, I would definitely recommend binging both these shows – who knows, by the time you finish, lockdown could be well and truly over.”

The Crown And The Assassination Of Gianni Versace

Beautifully filmed and well-directed.

Bondi Beauty Editor Renae Leith-Manos:

“I love all things British and this high-quality production (The Crown) is an art piece as well as being a fantastic history lesson. I love the acting, the costumes and the sets. It’s a great escape.

The Assassination of Gianni Versace is an incredible portrayal of a real life assassin and his mind. Set mainly in Miami, there is the glamour of Versace, next to the craziness of his murderer.

Anything based on real life appeals to me, and this fabulous series is sensational, albeit a bit violent.”

SBS On Demand

Even your cat won’t want to leave.

Bondi Beauty Columnist Rebecca Wilkinson:

“Okay, so don’t shoot me, but I don’t do Netflix. But I do do SBS on Demand.

I have been obsessing over British, Nordic and European Crime Dramas of late, and SBS Demand have the best selection ever.

My faves are: Wisting, The Team and The Bridge (which is actually a US one), and The Dublin Murders from Ireland.

I’ve finished all series except for The Dublin Murders.

Some of the shows are a mix of English and subtitles, whilst others are totally subtitled.”

Tiger King

The Tiger King Joe Exotic
The craziest show you will watch all year.

Bondi Beauty Writer Zoe Bradbury:

“Although I’ve already finished it, I can’t recommend the Netflix documentary ‘Tiger King’ enough.

It was truly a wild ride from start to finish, and it really took my mind off the current climate.

Not to mention, I’m loving the memes that have sprouted from this crazy true story.

It also highlights exotic animal cruelty that I had no idea occurred in the United States.”

Mad Men

An oldie but a goodie.

Bondi Beauty Writer Tara McKenzie:

“My housemate and I have recently started watching the series Mad Men.

The show is set in 1950s New York and follows the goings on of an advertising agency.

The show explores themes such as family, infidelity, gender roles etc. and is an amazing form of escapism to think about how society functioned almost 60 years ago.”
