What To Eat and Do In Byron Bay

Combi

The Avo Toast at Combi Cafe is so pretty and tasty it’s hard not to justify it the $15 avocado toast.

Prepare to be wowed by one of the most Instagrammable cafés ever. From the pink walls to the luscious raw treats, this café screams photography goals. Perhaps that is why after about 12.30 pm there is a line halfway down the street to get a table. For that reason, I would recommend getting there around (or just before midday) so you beat the rush hour.

Speaking of rush, while the staff work very hard, a speedy delivery of your food is not their strongest suit.

Each time I’ve been to Combi, I’ve had to wait for ages (over 10-15 minutes) to receive my #foodporn avo toast. But I have come to the conclusion that is just the Byron way of life; slow and steady wins the race.

If you’re looking for cheap eats, this is definitely not the place, but the food is so pretty and tasty it’s hard not to justify it the $15 avocado toast.

The Farm is principally a working farm, but boy is it pretty. The site IS a collection of micro-businesses, including a restaurant and a bakery. In between your photoshoot amongst their famous sunflowers, learn all about how the food is grown and what they do to contribute to the environment.

Wategos Beach

Wategos Beach is located 2 km east of the Byron Bay town centre. A peaceful sheltered little beach that is ideal for families, a fantastic place to picnic, play in the sand and swim.

You’ll find BBQ’s and picnic tables are available to cook up breakfast or lunch. At the far end of the beach you can take the steps up to the Cape Byron Lighthouse.

The beach is well protected by trees and waves usually break gradually, spilling over the wide sand bar and patchy reef, producing a friendlier surf suitable for long boards and learners. The beach is typically a lot quieter than its neighbour Main Beach and, as such, is perfect for taking pictures in the crystal blue water.

It is also important to note that Chris Hemsworth and his family live at Wategos…

Lighthouse Walk

Not only is the walk to the lighthouse super aesthetic, it is also a great workout and the perfect way to stay active on your trip.

Not only is this walk super aesthetic, it is also a great workout and the perfect way to stay active on your trip.

You’ll need a good two hours to properly experience the Cape Byron walking track – but it’s so rich in delights, so don’t be surprised if you reach the end and feel like doing it all again. In fact, it’s one of the best ways to spend a couple of hours on the state’s entire coast.

The 3.7km loop leads you on a hike through rainforest and across clifftops with stunning views of the ocean and hinterland. If you’d prefer an easier walk, the track can be accessed at numerous points and walked in shorter sections.

There are several lookouts which make for great pictures of the beach and the hinterlands. Just before the lighthouse, you’ll find yourself on the most easterly point of NSW – the perfect photo op.

Spell & The Gypsy Collective, a loved and internationally recognised local brand, has come along way since its humble beginnings. The founders of Spell, sisters Isabella (nicknamed Spell) and Elizabeth, began selling handmade jewellery and clothing at the Byron Bay markets.

A far cry from the 4×4 market tent, the Byron Bay boutique at 15 Browning Street is mix of new and old, natural and manmade, the striking space embodies the carefree, gypsy character Spell is known and loved for.

The store has lots of natural light, and the aesthetics inside are almost as beautiful as their clothes.
