May is the month to become more mindful.

A national campaign is encouraging  not only mindfulness and meditation, but an awareness of how lucky we are to be living in the western world.

May is the month to explore mindfulness.

Around the world one in nine people live without clean water, something Australians take for granted, and  nearly four million people die every year from contaminated water, sanitation, and hygiene-related diseases.

Mindful in May is a global campaign now in its fourth year aiming to connect people around the world with both their own health and the health of those less fortunate than themselves.

Mindful in May challenges participants to take ten minutes out of their day to practice mindful meditation, and to raise money to help improve access to clean drinking water for those in need as well.

Anyone can get involved and set-up their own online meditation team and then donate or get sponsored to fulfil the ten-minutes-a-day goal.

There are very few people who can say they aren’t living a busy, stressful, and overwhelming life. Mindful in May provides a month-long online meditation course aiming to relieve some of that stress, as well as providing participants with long-term skills to improve their mindfulness.

The program includes evidence-based approaches to meditation as well as exclusive video interviews with experts in the brain, well-being, and mindfulness.

But the real benefit is that the organisation is giving 94% of all proceeds from the program to Charity Water, a not-for-profit who use 100% of all donations in projects around the world to increase access to clean water.

Charity Water uses a range of water technologies to improve access to communities in need and they are committed to ensuring that the project that implemented is the best possible solution given the culture, climate, geography, cost.

So sign up for Mindful in May to start a positive change in your own life and in the lives of others. Encourage your friends, family, and co-workers to either join you in the challenge or sponsor you and help bring clean water to people in need.

You can register at www.mindfulinmay.org before May 1st to start making a difference.
