Get Those #hairgoals with Kristin Ess

Celebrity Hair Stylist Kristin Ess chats to us about her hot hair and beauty tips and plans for the future of her brand.

She’s a celebrity hairstylist, a colourist and a social influencer. We can’t get enough of her and her LA-based haircare products Kristin Ess.

With more than twenty-two years experience as a well-known hairstylist and colourist, Kristin has developed a range of hair cleaners, shampoos, conditioners, dry and wet stylers which help you achieve your #hairgoals at home.

But does she use anything else other than her own products to help her with her luscious locks at home. Nope, she doesn’t have time for any home remedies. “If I’m being 100 percent honest, it’s not because I don’t believe in it, but because it can be really time consuming and I am always pressed for time these days,” she says.

And when she is done looking after her hair, she takes some time to add some TLC to her skincare routine also. ” I love Augustinus Vader’s The Cream because it’s insanely moisturizing, SuperGoop Everyday Sunscreen to protect my very pale and sensitive skin, Mountain Ocean Skin Trip body lotion because it’s so light and just disappears.

I also love using HanaCure Masks because they make my skin so tight it’s unbelievable and It Cosmetics TightLiner because I have lash extensions and that just gets the root area.”

Do you have any hot tips to share on how to keep hair salon-fresh after a workout?

“Yes! First, wear your hair up on top of your head if you can. The higher the bun or ponytail, the more volume you’ll have when it comes down.  After your workout, use medium heat to blow dry all around the edges of your hair while it’s still up. Then take it down and flip over to dry the root area.

There’s nothing wrong with blowdrying your post-workout sweat. It’s mostly water and natural oils. After you dry it, add a little dry shampoo where you sweat the most, then carry on about your day.”

With the typical Aussie lifestyle being about time out in the sun in the sea, are there ways of making a hair colour last longer?

“Absolutely. Make sure you’re using sulfate-free shampoo at least 95 percent of the time. I understand if someone with an oily scalp needs to do a clarifying shampoo once in a while but other than that stick to sulfate-free.

Wear a hat. Use a purple shampoo from time-to-time if you’re blonde. Focus on shine products if you have rich browns or reds. Always use a leave-in conditioner after you wash to keep that cuticle sealed.”

Any fab new products coming our way from your brand?

“There’s the Anytime Anywhere Recovery Balm which will be coming to Australia soon. It’s an oil balm which isn’t liquid. It’s a great all-round styling balm, which also works to nourish your hair, while you wear it. I use it after I blow-dry to de-puff and I also use it before braiding my hair. It doesn’t have any hold, just gives great shine and separation.

We have also just released the new travel sized shampoos and conditioners and styling tools and in the future, I have plans to create more environmentally friendly packaging.

There are still two major hair categories I haven’t launched yet and both are coming in December 2019 to January 2020 to Australia, which I am super excited about.”

Whatever they are, we can’t wait.
