DIY Natural Health Hacks

There are some amazing DIY Natural Health Hacks that have been used for centuries across the world.

Long before the magnitude of pills, medicines and antibiotics were on the market, people used natural, home remedies to soothe, heal and detoxify the body.

They are centuries old techniques from ancient societies who believed in holistic healing, that is, using what’s naturally available around you to benefit body, mind and soul.

Step back in time to think of your health through a holistic lens.

Here are some top natural health hacks to get you feeling good.

  1. Garlic for your ears

Why? Not just for Italian cooking, garlic is an effective, natural way of healing the body, particularly helping to fight infections such as those in the ear.

Garlic has antibacterial, antiviral and antifungal properties, and is a natural remedy before turning to antibiotics, which can often leave the body run down.

How to do it: Ensure the ear drum is not ruptured before using. Add one glove of chopped garlic to two tablespoons of olive oil and warm over a low heat, not letting the oil smoke or bubble.

Swirl around the pan until just fragrant, then pour the garlic oil into the jar and strain out the garlic. Drop two to three drops of warm oil into the ear while laying down.

  1. Use ginger for cramps

Why? Nobody likes uncomfortable cramps that leave your stomach in a knot, especially at that time of the month.

Ginger is highly effective in increasing blood flow and reducing inflammation in the muscles, including those surrounding the uterus where cramps begin.

Having been used for over 2000 years by traditional Chinese medicine, ginger can also help to naturally relieve pain and nausea.

How to do it: Grate one tablespoon of fresh ginger and add to a teapot of two cups of boiling water. Let steep for approximately 10 minutes and add fresh lemon juice and honey to taste.

  1. Have a shot – of Apple Cider Vinegar

Why? Miranda Kerr swears by it for shiny hair, while Katy Perry has been drinking it since she was a child. Apple cider vinegar could just become your new best friend.

It’s reported to help with weight loss, reducing cholesterol, lowering blood sugar levels and promoting good gut health and immune function due to the good bacteria found within the vinegar.

It’s also commonly used as a natural detox and helps promote good digestion.

How to do it: Try to avoid drinking the vinegar straight, as this can be harmful to your throat and teeth. To sweeten it up and make it pleasurable to taste, mix one tablespoon of vinegar with two tablespoons honey, one cup of warm water, and a dash of cayenne pepper.

Other additions could include ginger, turmeric or natural sweeteners. Or do as Miranda does and dilute it straight with warm water.

  1. Drink warm lemon water

Why? Ever wonder how Jennifer Aniston looks that good?  Drinking lemon water every morning is a part of her daily routine.

Consuming this cheap super-drink is a natural weigh of flushing toxins from the body, while also providing much needed hydration after a long night’s sleep.

Lemons are also high in Vitamin C, which not only helps to produce collagen within the body, promoting smoother, healthier skin, but also helps to boost the immune system.

How to do it: Squeeze a few slices of lemon into a glass of warm water on an empty stomach, first thing in the morning.
