6 Reasons Why Coconut Oil Should Become Part of Your Life

Coconut oil

Love coconut, but not sure what to do with it? Here are six reasons why coconut oil should become part of your life.

There are host of ways to include coconut oil in your daily life and you will benefit greatly.

Coconut oil holds a world of healthy benefits, from being nutrient and vitamin rich, assisting in lowering insulin levels in the body and even cleansing your face and hydrating your body.

So from cooking to cleansing, here are six reasons why coconuts oil should be part of life, starting from now:

BEAUTY:

1. Coconut oil is great for cleansing your makeup brushes; In a small bowl combine 1 teaspoon of coconut oil (liquid is best) and 1 teaspoon of fresh lemon juice. Swirl your makeup brushes around in the coconut oil and lemon mixture to clean. Rinse brushes thoroughly with warm water and dry with a clean cloth or paper towel. Set out on a clean cloth to finish air drying.

2. For cleansing your face from makeup, oil and dirt; Using a cotton pad, soak in liquid coconut oil and wipe your face; including eyes and mouth to remove everything and anything on the face. Afterwards, just cleanse as normal and follow with your daily skincare routine and you will notice straight away how clean and hydrated your skin is.

3. If you suffer from SUPER dry skin; especially in winter. 30 minutes before showering, massage liquid coconut oil all over your body (not too much, where it’s dripping everywhere) and let it soak into your skin for thirty minutes. Then take a shower (don’t use any body wash) and rinse off any excess in a luke warm shower. Moisturise as normal afterwards. If your skin is EXTRA dry, you may notice there isn’t much excess oil to rinse off.

NUTRITION:

4. Swap your normal sugar in sweets and treats (or even in your coffee) with coconut sugar. Coconut sugar is a natural sugar made from coconut palm sap, which is the sugary circulating fluid of the coconut plant. It is often confused with palm sugar, which is similar but made from a different type of palm tree. It contains the minerals iron, zinc, calcium and potassium, along with some short-chain fatty acids like polyphenols and antioxidants. It also contains a fibre called inulin, which may slow glucose absorption and explain why coconut sugar has a lower glycemic index than regular table sugar.

5. Coconut oil is rich in antioxidants such as flavonoids and polyphenols, which have many potential heart-health benefits, so adding this oil into your diet when cooking is a great replacement for other oils. Use it for sautéing and baking. And, if you’re vegan, coconut oil makes a great substitute for butter since it gives baked goods that same flaky, rich consistency and taste.

6. Here’s an amazing protein ball recipe with coconut oil:

    • 1/2 cup oats

Method:

    1. Blend all of the ingredients together except the chocolate chips in a food processor.
    1. When the mixture becomes smooth gently stir in chocolate chips.
    1. Shape the mixture into balls by rolling it in your hands.
    1. Place in the fridge for 30 minutes or more to allow the balls to chill and firm up.
