Gold Coast Clean Food

Where to enjoy healthy food on the Gold Coast:

Not withstanding my exposé on Seaworld last week, there is plenty of fabulous healthy, clean food on the Gold Coast, you just need to know where to go.

Here are some favourites I found on a recent family holiday:

Salt Grill By Luke Mangan at The Hilton: This is as upmarket as The Gold Coast gets, and everything from the luxe, streamlined interiors to the substantial menu loaded with clean, healthy and tasty delights is first class.

The food on offer is fresh and clean with plenty of lunch and dinner options from tapas, or oysters as a starter to a fish of the day, BBQ spiced Barossa Valley chicken and a vast selection of meat from the grill. There’s even a 5 or 7 course degustation available.

The Hiramasa Kingfish entree is a must, and a signature dish. If you want to be ultra light, the crab omelette is a gorgeous, balanced meal. The grilled barramundi with sautéed spinach, smoked tomato and caper salsa is a winner, as is the Jack’s 150 day grain feed scotch fillet.

I know we’re talking about clean food, but the vahlrona chocolate and peanut butter semi-freddo and salted caramel sauce is to die for if you want a sugar hit. Kids get their own menu complete with games to play whilst waiting for their meal.

Jupiters: Not the first venue that would leap to mind when thinking of clean food, however, an interiors upgrade as well as a refresh of the menus has seen some fabulous chefs move into Jupiters. The three restaurants there with the cleanest food are Cucina Vova, The Garden Kitchen & Bar and Kiyomi (Japanese). From home style steaks and lab dishes to freshly made salads dotted with colourful (edible) flowers, and grilled or steamed fish dishes, the food at all three venues is fabulous, and not over-priced.

Providore, Marina Mirage: Has some of the best breakfasts on The Gold Coast, and everything has a gourmet twist. The poached eggs with salmon has a tasty cheese creamy sauce swiped around the edge of the plate, gourmet chorizo sausage is available, and grain bread is there too. Lunches are solid, and juices made to order. Excellent coffee.

BSKT cafe, Mermaid Beach: These guys really are on a mission to create a food revolution, and they seem to be doing it.

There are paleo and vegan options, as well as plenty of sugar-free treats and juices. Breakfasts and lunches are brilliant with salads, meats, every healthy option you could think of.

Highlights include the vegan paleo pasta made from zucchini ( so no actual pasta at all), and tandoori prawns served with spiced coconut yoghurt. Dinners Friday and Saturday are also great, and you can even enjoy a wine with your healthy meal. The dairy free Co-co whip for dessert is heaven – as are the brownies.

Nobby Beach Area: This little enclave of shops has everything from a protein cafe to at least 3 fabulous cafes offering clean, healthy meals without sugar loaded sauces.

The Yard Cafe has great coffee and light meals for breakfast and lunch, Sparrow is gorgeous at any time, but especially for dinner, and Canvas has gorgeous home made quiches, and slices and sugar-free options, as well as great coffee.
