Creating health and fitness karma

Ever thought of applying the principle of karma to your health and fitness? Here’s how.

You can apply karma to exercise – here’s how:

Chant for clarity
The practice of chanting is considered a powerful tool. It dispels negative karma, making room for pure karma.

Whether it is first thing in the morning or just before your workout out, use a health and fitness focus to chant, in order to to clear your head of all distractions and get the most out of your workout. An example:  ‘My head feels clear and my body feels strong’.

Repeat healthy actions
Repeated actions build karma. If you continually cheat, lie and hurt others you build up bad karma. If you practice honestly, kindness and generosity you build up good karma. If you are inactive, eat junk food and are always stressed, you create unhealthy karma. Be aware of your health and fitness karma throughout the day. Make choices and develop habits that your body – and your health karma, will love you for.

Service to others
Charity and community work are great ways to give your positive karma a boost. Find a way to volunteer for fitness. You could offer to walk your elderly neighbour’s dog. Do you have a friend or colleague who is motivated but nervous to go to the gym alone?

Take them with you a few times. Sign up for a sponsored sports event to raise money for a charity close to your heart. Not only will you feel good about yourself, but you will increase you positive and healthy karma no end.

Get thankful
Feeling gratitude for all the good things that have happened in the day is a popular way to nourish good karma. You can apply this principle to fitness by keeping a health journal. Each night write down something about your health or body that you appreciate, or any new fitness achievement or discovery.

On the days when you are having trouble finding something to be thankful for, you will have lots of inspiration to read back on to help you find that thankful head space.

Find your spiritual self
Getting in touch with your own spirituality can widen your outlook, enhance meaning and enrich your connection to others. All of which create a better karmic footprint. Find what sense of spirituality works for you.

It may be experiencing total body awareness in a yoga class, reconnecting with nature as you run along the beach, or meditating on the importance of a fit and health body.
