10 Ridiculously Easy Ways To Save Our Planet

Ever wanted to make a difference in the world, but find yourself wondering where to start?

We have compiled a list of 10 ridiculously easy ways you can help save our planet TODAY.

  1. Meat-free Monday

Did you know that approximately 7000 litres of water go towards creating 450 grams of beef? THAT IS CRAZY. By eating meat one less day a week, you’re not only helping cut water usage, but you’re also doing amazing things for your body.

  1. Sustainable Period Products

This one may sound like it requires a little more effort, but using sustainable period products is actually super easy. Check out our story on sustainable period products HERE

  1. Sustainable Shampoo and Conditioner

You may not even realise, but there are hair care products out there that don’t require bottles. Shampoo and conditioner bars are a thing. And not only do they eradicate the need for excess plastic, they are better for you as they do not use harmful parabens or chemicals.

  1. Turn off Your Computer Overnight

This is probably the easiest way you can help save our planet. If you’re laptop or phone are already charged at night, turn off the power and don’t leave them charging.

By leaving your laptop plugged in to the charger, you’re using unnecessary energy that isn’t actually going towards anything. By turning the switch you’ll also be saving yourself money and lengthening your computer’s life.

  1. Go Op-Shopping

Not only is this socially sustainable, going op-shopping can save you heaps of dollars. You never know what cute vintage (or new) items you may find in your local salvos or vinnies.

  1. Use Canvas Bags

You may have noticed that more and more stores are charging for bags or eliminating them completely. Next time you see a cute canvas bag at a market, in a store, or at the merchandise stand at the latest gig you’ve attended – splurge on that baby.

Because even though you may be paying more upfront for the bag, you can reuse and reuse and reuse that bag for all of your shopping needs – making it a cute accessory as well as a sustainable option.

  1. Purchase a Keep Cup

Keep Cups are a super easy way for you to help our planet. On average in Australia 16.3 million coffees are consumed daily, with 90% of these in single-use cups. Surprisingly, these single-use cups are rarely made from paper, with the materials they are made from being unrecyclable.

On top of that, most of these cups are made from Styrofoam, which never fully breaks down. By purchasing a reusable cup, you are saving the planet from 21 times the CO2 emissions which come from single-use cups that sit in landfill, but you are also gaining a super cute, personal cup.

  1. Cancel Your Paper Bank Statements

Most banks now will offer the option to receive all of your bank statements electronically, in fact some automatically send them to you online.

However, if you’re still receiving paper statements, by requesting that your bank provides them to you electronically you’ll be doing huge things to reduce paper usage, as well as making it easier to review your statements by being able to view them anywhere, anytime on a mobile device.

  1. Ride a Bike

If you can stay off the road just two days a week, you’ll reduce greenhouse gas emissions by an average of 721 kilograms per year. Not only will you be helping the planet, but riding your bike is a great way to pump those endorphins and burn a few extra calories.

  1. Be Conscious with Your Products

Avoid beauty products such as exfoliators that use plastic microbeads or other plastic ingredients as when you wash them off they find themselves in our water systems which ends up harming wildlife and polluting the water.

Products that contain chemicals and plastic that are harmful to wildlife are also harmful to you – so make sure you’re checking the ingredients in your favourite products.

If nothing else, be mindful.
