Coffee or No Coffee?

Multiple coffee cups of al sizes and colours

Tomorrow-October 1 is international coffee day. And of all of the food and drinks we write about here at Bondi Beauty, coffee has as many lovers as haters.

It really is controversial – and confusing.

And we know first hand as we read so many of the reports. There are the studies that say it makes you live longer, then there are studies that say it shortens your life.

There is even research that says drinking coffee can prevent some cancers, as I discovered at a breakfast for Robert Timms gourmet coffee bags last week. There is another study saying six coffees a day is just fine.

And another that seven cups of coffee helps us live longer, and even that 25 cups of coffee a day will not harm the heart.

And one expert swears it is great for our skin.

And there are other studies that say it can complicate other health issues or even create them. One thing that is certain is that coffee is addictive.

And it absolutely is a stimulant which can be an issue for anyone with anxiety, then again that can help people hoping to lose weight. Whenever we write stories at Bondi Beauty, they have to be backed up science based evidence and/or recent studies.

But I’ve come to the conclusion that for my coffee drinking, it’s time to toss the studies aside and listen to my body. I love coffee, and it works for me. I really enjoy a gourmet coffee too, or a butter coffee.

That first coffee of the day has become a daily ritual I enjoy, and look forward to.Yes, I’ve detoxed off it several times-with difficulty, and did I feel better at those times? Not really. And an espresso martini at the right time and place is a truly great indulgence.

And don’t get me started on the number of fabulous people I’ve met at coffee shops the world over. For many years.

Sharing that daily caffeine ritual makes for fertile ground for friendships. So I’m taking charge of my own health and body and going to continue to enjoy it- in moderation.

And I hope you do what works for your body too. Cheers to intentional coffee day.

Excuse me whilst I order an almond cappuccino.
