All Dressed Up And Nowhere To Go. Why Natural Beauty Is Back.

The lockdown has not only given me a new approach to my beauty routine, but a new relationship with myself.

My beauty salon opened last week, and I haven’t made it through the door yet. Why?

I’m enjoying living with a more low key approach to my beauty routine, and it’s all about natural beauty.

During the lockdown, we’ve all had to learn new ways of doing things and of relating to each other, especially those under the same roof. But we’ve also had to find new ways to relate to ourselves.

For many women I have spoken to, this has been confronting. We have had to look in the mirror and accept our faces without the injectables, our nails have had a break from colour, waxing has had to be done at home or not at all, and makeup has also become much more low key and natural.

Personally I’ve never had so many long baths wearing a face & hair mask, and I love it. Far from feeling unattractive, I feel happier & healthier, but yes, with a lot less make-up and beauty treatments.

I’ve saved a fortune but I’ve also learnt so much about at-home beauty treatments and I’ve learnt to love myself being far more natural.

And the best thing about this new me is that my friends seem to feel the same way. I had a girls lunch on the long weekend and no-one had nail polish on.

I’m obviously not anti nailpolish, in fact I love it, but I am enjoying the break. There was mascara, some foundation and natural lips on the girls, and everyone looked fantastic. But more than that, they had a chilled approach and feel to them. They weren’t over-dressed or overly stressed.

So I am in no hurry to go back to my routined way of beauty treatments, or my old way of life to be honest. And given the only place to go is to a friend’s house or a low key restaurant where no-one else is dressed up, there is absolutely no rush.
