This is What Happened When I Tried a Plant-Based Diet for a Week

A delicious range of meals delivered by Soulara

Being an almost a vegan; someone who is consciously trying not to eat meat for health reasons, the idea of trying out a new meal delivery service, which is completely plant-based, sounded right up my alley.

For the past year, my diet has been a roller-coaster ride of one week vegan and the next not vegan.

On the weeks where I felt both physically and emotionally strong, I was vegan. But on the weeks where I was extra busy, tired and run down, I often found myself driving through the nearest Red Rooster for chicken and chips. I know, I know, of all the places to get chicken and chips.

I put this down to the preparation required for a vegan diet, as there is a lot of time needed to prepare meals. This is to ensure your meals throughout the week are well balanced in providing the protein, minerals and vitamins needed when you’re on a vegan diet.

So, when I was offered a chance to try out a new Plant-Based, Gluten-Free and Vegan meal delivery service in Sydney for a week, I couldn’t wait. Not only would I get a break from meal preparation, but I would also be eating nice, clean and healthy food for the week.

Called Soulara, this new plant-based meal delivery service is taking clean-eating to a whole new level.

Servicing a variety of specialised diets, such as veganism, vegetarianism and gluten-free allergies, Soulara is the first of its kind here in Australia, and are passionate about creating a lifestyle around clean-eating, and healthy foods.

Soulara have partnered with a variety of top chefs from around Sydney, including head chef Tobias Hayes, who boasts a wealth of culinary experience, having previously worked at The Dorchester in the UK, Black Bar & Grill and The Opera Bar.

Plants are a great source of powerful phytonutrients, which help fight toxins in the body, boost metabolism and help support the immune system. With a powerful combination of vegetables, fruits, legumes, nuts, seeds and wholegrains, each Soulara meal is designed to give the body everything it needs, and then some.

And before you ask; ‘but what about protein?’ Soulara has made sure each meal contains enough essential amino acids to ensure you are getting enough protein in each meal.

Each meal was delicious, and a lot more diverse than I had expected. From mushroom and vegetable broth, to gluten-free pastas and even a blue smoothie bowl for breakfast. All equally full of great flavour and easy to enjoy – even if you aren’t a vegan.

As far as healthy meal deliveries go, Soulara would definitely be my number one choice. Eating their meals for a week solidified my decision to be vegan. And when I know there are going to be busy times ahead; where I will be hard pressed for time to prepare my own food, I’ll definitely be placing an order with Soulara to cover me for those weeks where I’m tired and run down.

The menu includes a wide range of breakfast, lunch and dinner selections, and meal plans start at a reasonable $103.50 a week for nine meals. Soulara is already servicing all major cities in Australia, including Wollongong, Newcastle and the Central Coast, and plan to offer nation-wide delivery in the coming weeks.
