Here are 3 easy Paleo treats that taste naughty but are healthy.

Essentially, the paleo diet is labelled as “the cave man diet”. It is dubbed one of the best diets of 2019 by hello magazine.

Heather Magnieri, a spokesperson for the academy of Nutrition and Diectics and author of Fuelling Young athletes says, “The Paleo diet has a lot of good things going for it. It recommends excluding processed foods and refined sugars and emphasises fruits, vegetables, nuts, seeds, and lean protein”. 

Check out the following three paleo treat recipes that’ll take no longer than an hour to create and provide healthy snacks you can reach for a masterpiece of health.

  1. Banana and almond butter slice

  • 2 ripe bananas
  • 1.5 cups almond flour/meal
  • 1/4 teaspoon salt
  • 1 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/4 cup tapioca flour (alternative to traditional wheat flours and starches.)
  • 3/4 cup almond butter (other nut butters could be used as well).
  • 1/3 cup coconut oil, melted
  • 1 egg
  • 1 tablespoon vanilla extract
  • 1 cup chocolate chips (could use less if you like)

Method: Preheat oven to 180 degrees. Combine all ingredients into a bowl, mix together and then place in fully lined baking tray in preheated oven for 30 minutes. Let it cool down and cut into 8 squares.

2. Paleo banana bread

  • 4 small/med very overripe bananas or 3 larger ones, mashed well
  • 4 large eggs room temp
  • 2 tsp pure vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil melted and cooled to almost room temp
  • 1 3/4 cups blanched almond flour
  • 1/2 cup tapioca flour (gluten free flour)
  • 1 tsp baking soda
  • 1/2 tsp baking powder or make your own paleo baking powder*
  • 1 tsp cinnamon
  • 1/4 tsp fine grain sea salt

Method: Preheat oven to 180 degrees, combine all ingredients and mix together. Place baking paper into a loaf pan and bake in preheated oven for 50-60 minutes until golden.

3. Paleo chocolate chunk cookies

  •  1 egg, slightly beaten
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla extract
  • 1/4 cup coconut oil, melted and cooled
  • 1/2 cup coconut sugar
  • 1 cup almond flour
  • 1/4 cup coconut flour
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1/2 cup 80% dark chocolate, coarsely chopped*

Method: Preheat oven to 170 degrees. Combine all ingredients (including melted coconut oil) together and mix. Use cookie scoop to place on lined tray and flatten dough with hand. Cook for 15 minutes or until golden.
