5 Reasons To Drink Green Tea Daily

Experts agree that incorporating green tea into your daily diet may bring a host of benefits to your skin and weight, and may even help prevent cancer.

We take a look at why you should be drinking this superfood everyday.

1) It can help you lose weight

Green tea is a powerful weight loss tool, according to the University of Maryland Medical Centre in America. It contains catechins, antioxidants known for helping rev up the metabolism to shed unwanted kilos. The average cup of green tea has 35mg of caffeine, which stimulates fat loss and increases energy.

2) It will give you youthful skin

Green tea fights aging. According to Professor Hasan Mukhtar, PhD of the University of Wisconsin-Madison in America, “of all the antioxidants known to mankind, the components of green tea are the most potent.”

This tea is rich in wrinkle-fighting antioxidants called polyphenols, which fight free radicals and keep you looking younger longer.

3) It fights acne

It’s also been lauded for its acne-clearing properties. It can lower the levels of androgens in the body, hormones that increase sebum production and lead to breakouts. Plus, the powerful antioxidants in this beverage can also quash the inflammation that causes acne.

Keen to up your antioxidant intake even further? Try out matcha, a concentrated powdered version of green tea boasting three times as many antioxidants than the regular variety. It can be found in many foods including smoothies and ice-creams.

4) It may protect against cancer

As the Cancer Research UK Centre points out, there is a lower incidence of cancer in countries with high green tea consumption, including Japan and China. While this isn’t conclusive proof that green tea prevents cancer, some science suggests that the epigallocatechin-3-gallate (also known as EGCG) found in green tea prevents oxidative damage, and may therefore result in a reduced risk of cancer.

It’s hard to know the extent of the drink’s cancer-preventing qualities until further research is undertaken. But drinking more green tea still seems like a wise decision, given that consuming more antioxidants will help fight inflammation and improve your health overall.

5) It can help you kick your caffeine addiction

True, it still contains some caffeine, but subbing out a few of your daily cups of coffee or black tea will reduce your caffeine consumption significantly. And let’s face it – it’s certainly easier than going completely cold turkey.

It’s the perfect beverage to get your daily dose of caffeine, while also providing amazing health benefits.

So whether your drink of choice is toasty genmaicha or grassy sencha, get brewing and add a cup of green tea – and some amazing health benefits – into your everyday.
