Elle Macpherson Says Balancing Her PH Completely Changed Her Life

A modern lifestyle could be making your body too acidic and upsetting its healthy pH balance.

At 51, the sculpted supermodel has a body which women half her age only ever dream of having. The age-defying mother of three claims balancing her pH completely changed her life.

The Theory

A highly acidic diet is a breeding ground for disease and ill health. The alkaline diet is built on the belief that when your body digests food, it can leave a residue which is either acidic or alkaline. Stored mineral deposits can be depleted if the body is too acidic as it will try to rebalance the delicate acid/alkaline balance. Using up available nutrients can disrupt many systems of the body, including the immune, digestive and endocrine (hormonal) systems.

The Promise

The benefits of re-balancing your body chemistry can include:

  • Increased energy levels
  • Improved mood
  • Weight loss
  • Reduced ageing of the skin

What’s on the menu?

The following foods can have an alkalising effect, helping to neutralise acids:

  • Vegetables: spinach, kale, cabbage, sprouts, broccoli, cucumber.
  • Fruits: berries, bananas, apples, avocado, lemon, lime.
  • Grains: quinoa, wild rice, buckwheat.
  • Drinks: coconut water, almond milk, green juices, apple cider vinegar.

Surprisingly, foods which have an acidic taste (such as lemon and apple cider vinegar) can have an alkalising effect when digested.

What’s out?

These acid-forming items should be avoided when possible:

  • Sugar
  • Processed foods
  • Coffee (we’re not keen to give this one up)
  • Alcohol and fizzy drinks
  • Refined carbohydrates (white bread and pasta)
  • Red meat

Stress, a lack of sleep and pollution can also increase the body’s acidity.

Elle’s Secret Quick Fix

The timeless beauty has created her very own wellness drink: The Super Elixir. Elle claims that just 10g of the alkalising supplement powder contains all the vitamins, minerals and trace elements needed to assist vitality and wellness.

At $145 for 300g, does the Super Elixir really allow you to drink your way to a body like Elle’s? It better.

Elle has reportedly admitted to carrying pH urine strips in her handbag to monitor her alkalinity.

The Verdict

An increasing number of health experts are praising the alkaline diet. However, it’s still hotly debated with no convincing medical evidence.

Most of us should concentrate on improving the overall quality of our diet anyway, but do we really need to refer to complicated lists and monitor our urine? Probably not. But if Elle Macpherson is doing it, will we follow suit? Most definitely.
