Himalayan salt boasts a world of health benefits.
This ranges from aiding in vascular health, supporting healthy lung and respiratory function, reducing the signs of ageing, promoting healthy sleep, increasing hydration and strengthening the immune system. It can even lower blood pressure.
So when we heard you could do yoga with a pinch of salt, and in a room filled with Himalayan salt, we had to try it.
From the moment you enter the front door to the Saltuary Day Spa in Five Dock, you instantly feel de-stressed.
The ambient orange glow of light emanating from the salt lamps placed in nearly every corner of the day spa sends you on a journey out of Sydney and into the Himalayan Mountains.
Almost everything is made from salt, and not just inside the yoga room.
Even the walls in the reception area, the chill-out lounge and massage rooms are made from salt bricks.
Basically, it’s one giant salt lamp.
Bondi Beauty writer Rebecca found the session in the salt room enjoyable and deeply relaxing.
She said: Breathing the air in the salt room felt similar to being at the beach. You could feel and taste the salt throughout the whole class and it wasn’t overpowering at all.
As a long term sufferer of respiratory infections, I instantly felt relief from the clean salty air, which made breathing very easy for me.
And although I was worried the uneven floor surface of salt rocks would hinder my balance, I found it far easier to hold yoga poses, as the tiny salt rocks moulded around my body, giving me the extra comfort and support I needed to hold the poses longer.
With only one experience under my belt, I can hardly claim to call myself an expert on salt rooms.
However, I can say I definitely plan to go back and explore this style of yoga again in the near future.
