Monday 21 June is World Yoga Day – Here’s What You Need To Know

world yoga day - what's on

As the COVID-19 pandemic continues to upend lives and livelihoods globally, The United Nations will be hosting a global online event for World Yoga Day.

From the comfort and safety of your own home, you can practice and experience the benefits of yoga, connecting with millions of people around the world by joining this live world yoga day virtual event. And it’s FREE.

Beyond the immediate impacts COVID has had on the physical health of many around the world, the pandemic has also exacerbated psychological suffering and mental health problems, including depression and anxiety, as pandemic-related restrictions continue in various forms in many countries.

This has highlighted the urgent need to address the mental health dimension of the pandemic, in addition to the physical health aspects.

As yoga is an ancient physical, mental and spiritual practice that originated in India and with the world yoga itself meaning, to join or to unite, symbolising the union of the body and consciousness. The United Nations wanted to bring awareness to the emotional stressed being caused around the world, from the pandemic.

By hosting a live world virtual event for anyone across the world to join, a virtual connection so to speak, they hope to create a peaceful union between people, connecting us all virtually, reminding us that we are not alone.

In the words of one of its most famous practitioners, the late B. K. S. Iyengar, “Yoga cultivates the ways of maintaining a balanced attitude in day-to-day life and endows skill in the performance of one’s actions.”

Here’s how you can connect on Monday 21st June to World Yoga Day by International Yoga:
