Wellness Trends to Get On-board With in 2021

Forget ice baths and hot yoga, these are the wellness trends to get on-board with in 2021.

2021 is the year of self-love. Right now, nobody wants to start calorie restricting diets or trudge to the gym before sunrise. Ease yourself into the best shape you’ve ever been in- mentally and physically, by taking on these wellness trends which will help you live your best life.

Eat Planet Conscious

Eating planet conscious means reducing (or eliminating) meat and dairy from your diet. The impact of eating meat on the plant is undeniable with the livestock sector being responsible for 18% of all emissions. Avoiding meat and dairy has been labelled as the “single biggest way to reduce your impact,” by Oxford University researcher Jospeh Poore.

These veggie nori rolls are to die for.

Author of This Is Your Mind on Plants, published in 2021 Michael Pollan famously said “Eat food. Not too much. Mostly plants,” explaining the health benefits of a plant rich diet.

Follow Therapists and Psychologists on Instagram

Seriously. Try it! These accounts normalize therapy and serve subtle reminders that self-development and self-growth take daily work.

This is a taste of Sara Kuburic’s Instagram which is full of down to earth and relatable posts like this one.

We recommend Sara Kuburic: @millennial.therapist and Dr. Nicole LePera @the.holistic.psychologist, but there are plenty to choose from. Sara and Nicole are both accredited in what they do and have beautiful feeds full of affirmations, facts and anecdotes that will leave you feeling glass half full.

Running

Hit the road, track or bush trail and get up some running mileage.

Free (to do), a way to be social with friends and awesome alone, running is the perennially accessible and never out of fashion workout that we love. As the weather is cooling down running is better than ever with research showing that over 3 million Australians participate in the sport. Get your running shoes on and hit the bitumen.

Chocolate for stress reduction

With stress caused by COVID-19 prevalent in society, reaching for (the) chocolate has never been more important.

Dark chocolate is the most nutrient and antioxidant rich.

A study conducted by the British Journal of Clinical Psychology in 2013 reported that chocolate may interact with neurotransmitter systems such as dopamine, serotonin and endorphins that contribute to appetite, reward and mood regulation.

Chocolate also contains antioxidants and nutrients such as iron and fibre that can positively affect your health. Regardless of how you like your chocolate don’t forget to stock up on the goods at least weekly.

Try it out.

Digital Detoxes

We are not sure if reading on a kindle counts, however this study by Kent State University has shown that as mobile phone use increases, so does anxiety. Low self-esteem, anxiety and feelings of loneliness are among a plethora of other nasty side effects of high screen usage. Ditch your phone today- even if its just for a few hours. Delete time wasting apps and try to get your screen time down to a couple hours (or less) per day.

Practice self-love with these wellness trends that are peaking in 2021. We love them and you will too.
