This Valentines Day, maybe it’s time to train with your partner?

This Valentines Day, instead of loading up on rich food and gifts, use it as the perfect excuse to ramp up your fitness and train with your partner.

Train with your partner this Valentine’s Day

Kayaking – the sun is out and the sky is blue. Why not jump in a tandem kayak and head off to a little beach with a picnic of healthy goodies. You can reward your paddling efforts with lunch, a swim and some relaxing quality time together.

Tennis – anyone for tennis? Unless you want to perfect your ace serve, you need someone on the other side of the net to return the ball. So grab that cute little tennis skirt and your partner. Go get your heart racing and have some fun.

Dancing – you can of course hit the dance floor solo with any moves you like. But if there was ever an excuse to have your partners’ arms around you – and be lifted, ducked and spun, it’s at a rock n roll or salsa class. Who cares if your partner or you have two left feet, if it can work for Johnny Castle (Patrick Swayze) and Baby, it can work for you two.

Partner workout – usually do your own workouts? Instead of missing a session to spend the day together, why not start the day with a tag circuit. Grab towels and water bottles and head to your local park. Pick 5 exercises (squats, push ups, lunges, burpees and cycle abs) and 5 travel movements (run, side gallop, backwards run, step ups if you are near steps or a low wall and step kicks). One starts on squats whilst the other runs. Swap. Then move onto the next exercise and travel movement. Swap and so on. Until you are ready for a refreshing shower…

Snorkel & dive – a gal (or guy) should always have a snorkel or dive buddy so take your pick of the beautiful spots around Sydney like Gordon’s Bay. You’ll get a great little workout whilst you chase after those fish – and it’s an excuse to wear your new bikini too.

Climbing – indoor or outdoor depending on your head for heights and how much of a day you want to make of it. Reinforce the trust between you as you navigate ropes and foot holds. Work muscles you never knew you had and pick whether you want to play Xena warrior princess, or damsel in distress.

Cycling – on a bicycle made for two if you like? If you can agree on who is going to steer and promise not to be a back seat driver, a tandem bike can add that extra bit of teamwork and novelty to a cycle ride. Not mention getting your heart rate going and your thighs burning.

And if all else fails remember kissing burns 6.4 kcals a minute so pucker up.
