How & Why Soul Cycle Beats Spin hands down – literally

It’s the US fitness trend you cannot miss.

Soulcycle is a fantastic way to get fit, get spiritual and have fun.

If you haven’t heard of Soul Cycle, you’ve been living under a rock or are not into fitness!  It’s a high energy cycling class that is spiritual, fun, fast and burns calories.

The question everyone asks is what is the difference between Soul Cycle and Spin. Bondi Beauty Founder Renae Leith-Manos says there are at least five ways it’s completely different:

  1. The Sweat: You will sweat four times more in a Soul Cycle Class than a Spin Class. This is the toughest work out I’ve done, and I am super fit. The time flies, and so do the calories. It’s hard work, but fun. You can’t get away with slacking off here.
  2. The techniques:Unlike a spin class, you spend most of the class off the seat, so your thigh and butt muscles are working non-stop. You also use your arms leaning forward over the bike, which sounds odd, but works. Spin classes here don’t focus on arms, but there’s even a section with arm weights in Soul Cycle, so you get a great overall body workout.
  3. The atmosphere: You do this class by (fragrant) candle light. Sounds weird, but somehow works, as you feel relaxed and present, but still work out hard.
  4. The mantras: I know this will sound American, but the instructors chant all sorts of positive slogans throughout the class, such as: “stay present, do not leave this room, be in your body” and “I know you want this, just make it happen.” Which somehow makes you focus and, err..make it happen.
  5. The Instructors: They behave like super polite rock stars ( in a good way): At Soho Soul Cycle, Akin is the God of Soul Cycle, and one look and you can see why. He has a rock hard body, hosts classes back to back all day, connects with everyone (and the classes are packed) and makes everyone sweat bucket loads. Plus the staff who run the front counter are also awesome and super helpful.

The price? $50 Australian a class (with reductions if you buy a pack in advance), so it’s not cheap.

My only complaint is why isn’t this in Australia?
