Sleep In Your Gym Gear?

How to ensure you make that morning workout session.

Here are 5 simple ways to motivate yourself to make it to your morning workout.

Do you find yourself regularly pressing snooze on the alarm set for your intended morning gym session, telling yourself you’ll try again tomorrow?

Here are five tips to make your workout wake up easier, ensuring you get in that morning burst of exercise you’ve been putting off because your bed is just too comfy and warm.

1.Wear your gym clothes to bed

Sounds crazy, right? But wearing your gym clothes to bed either on their own or underneath your pyjamas will make the mission of getting up in the morning so much easier, especially in winter.

You won’t have to get undressed on those cold winter mornings, simply get up, put your shoes on and you’re ready to go. Getting out of bed and to the gym just got 10x easier.

2. Pack your gym bag the night before

The key to a successful morning is all about organisation to make sure those busy days run smoothly.

Packing your bag, the night before is the answer. Pack your water bottle (investing in a stainless steel insulated water bottle will ensure your water will stay cold overnight). Organise your beauty products, towel, earphones and a snack for the road. That way you will get out the door much faster.

3. Keep your alarm at a distance

Whether you set your alarm on your phone or on an old school alarm clock, make sure you need to get out of bed to turn it off.

Having to get up to turn off that pesky alarm means you’re already up before you can even think about it. This means there’s no excuse to stay in bed for “just another 5 minutes”.

4. Plan your workout the night before

Something so simple yet so overlooked.  Often, people go to the gym with no particular workout in mind and end up wasting valuable time deciding which glute exercise to do, which cardio machine to use or texting our crush until an exercise comes to mind.

Writing down your workout the night before, in your notes on your phone or in a diary, will help you to set intentions and increase motivation to get to the gym because you won’t have to think about what to do when you get there. Prior preparation prevents poor performance.

5. Go to bed at a reasonable hour

No one wants to get out of bed after a late night of Netflix binging let alone get out of bed and go to the gym. So, getting a decent amount of sleep prior to working out is essential to feeling motivated and energised for a killer morning gym session.

Aiming to get to bed at the same time each night and sticking to a routine where uninterrupted sleep is a priority will assist in making AM workouts a piece of cake.
