Winter Skincare Guide

Winter can actually be far more drying on your skin and hair than summer, especially if you are working out.

Keep your skin glowing during the tough winter months.

Hot yoga, hot showers and warmer fitness gear can see you sweating it out and increase your temperature.  Here are 5 simple ways to keep your skin glowing throughout the cold months:

NARS Gentle Cream Cleanser is a twice daily luxury in winter months.

Cleanser

Now is the perfect time to switch from a gel cleanser to a creamy one to keep your skin moist, clean and glowing. Gel cleansers can be too harsh in cooler weather, whereas creamy cleansers can replenish.

If there is one product you should consider splurging on, this is it as you use it twice every day, and what’s better than a moment of luxury twice a day every day of your life.

We love Nars’s Gentle Cream Cleanser (RRP: $41.00) which comes in a fully portable tube perfect for your gym bag and can be removed with tissues if you’re in a hurry. RRP $85

Crabtree and Evelyn’s Gardeners Nail and Cuticle Therapy softens the cuticles and strengthens the nails.

Cuticle Oil

If your skin is overly dry, the first place you see it is your nail bed.

Cuticles can become severely dehydrated, and nails can break as a result. Crabtree & Evelyn’s Gardeners nail and cuticle cream (RRP: $16.00) is a heavy duty cream that softens the cuticles and strengthens the nails perfect for cold winter days.

Travels well in a little tube. Simply rubbing a small amount of cuticle oil into nail beds ( hands and toes) every night before bed can keep them smooth and moist and nails strong.

Moisture Bath

A long hot bath is tempting during winter, but hot water can be dehydrating, and foaming bubble bath only adds to the problem. Epsom salts are every athlete’s best friend and help relax muscles and soothe skin.

A bath oil like REN Moroccan Rose Otto Bath Oil (RRP: $48.00) added to bath water will infuse moisture into your skin, and leave you feeling hydrated. (Olive or coconut oil are less glamorous alternatives that will help if you don’t have a bath oil to hand)

For a treat, try one of Lush’s bath bombs. One of our favourites is Sex Bomb and this has a calming blend of ylang-ylang, jasmine and clary sage perfect after a long, hard day of work.

REN Moroccan Bath Oil will leave your skin soft and supple.

It’s also smart to sip cool water during a bath, especially after exercise to keep fluids up.

Moisturiser

Lather on a thick body moisturiser after a bath or long hot shower to ensure skin doesn’t dry out. Focus on dry skin areas like knees, elbows and heels.

Josie Maran’s Whipped Argan Oil Illuminizing Body Butter (RRP: $55.00) is the ultimate skin saviour. With pure argan oil, coconut oil and shea butter, this body butter will hydrate, soften and nourish the skin.

Josie Maran’s Whipped Argan Oil Ultra Hydrating body butter will be your skin’s new best friend.

Hair

Your hair can also suffer from excessive hair drying, having shower water too hot and even indoor heating.

Using a rich hair mask on the ends 2-3 times a week is a great way to keep hair strong.

Wash it less so the hair’s natural oils have a chance to work through each strand and keep it moist.

Another option is using an oil on the ends to keep hair moist and prevent breakage.

Use OUAI Repair Conditioner (RRP $40.00) to help repair damage while also giving your hair much needed hydration.

OUAI Repair Conditioner prevents hair breakage during the cooler months.

Everyday Hair

Switching to a less abrasive shampoo & conditioner rich in natural oils can be very beneficial in winter too.

Nourish and condition dry and damaged hair with Mario Badescu Lecithin Nourishing Shampoo (RRP: $19.00) Infused with chamomile extract and jojoba oil, this is a gentle shampoo perfect for those with dry, sensitive scalps.

Maria Badescu Lecithin Nourishing shampoo is rich and calming to infuse hair with moisture in cold weather.
