Why You Should Eat a Plant-Based Diet

Why you need to eat a plant-based diet

There are loads of benefits to eating a plant-based diet. And with summer just around the corner, now is the time to eat lighte, healthier meals. Here are our top tips for bringing more plants into your life.

You can almost taste and smell the salty air of beach hair and sunscreen can’t you? For a lot of us, re-evaluating our diets means it’s time to ditch those heavy wintery foods, for more lighter healthier meals, which make us feel healthier and more energised. And, we don’t mean following any fad diets or eating crazes. Instead we mean, it might be time to switch up your foods by introducing more plant-based foods into your diet.

If you’re a meat-eater, this doesn’t have to mean giving up meat altogether. However, switching a few meat-inspired dishes with fresh fruit and veggies may have a big impact on your health and wellbeing. And help you lose weight over the hotter months of the years.

The benefits of eating a plant-based diet:

It’s quite surprising how many benefits there are with eating more plants, with many experts saying those who eat more plant-based foods have an increase in energy, clearer skin and are able to lose and maintain weight more easily.

Eating a plant-based diet has also shown proven results in helping many people decrease the risk of high blood pressure, obesity and heart disease.

And they don’t just have a direct positive impact – cutting down on meat and eating more plants helps with the environment too. By consuming less meat, you’re reducing your contribution to greenhouse gas emissions, pollution, and deforestation.

How to introduce more plant-based foods into your diet:

When we talk about ‘plants’, this encompasses a lot of food groups such as vegetables, grains, nuts, seeds, legumes, and fruits – so the meal possibilities are endless.

  1. Substitute meat with a vegetarian alternative – Think of a meal you love to cook that includes meat and try swapping it with something meat-free – this could be chilli made with sweet potato and beans rather than beef mince or grilled eggplant instead of chicken.
  2. Eat whole grains for breakfast – Start your day with oats sprinkled with nuts, seeds, fruit and cinnamon for a delicious and healthy way to kick-start your metabolism and keeping you feeling fuller for longer.
  3. Consume good fats – We tend to avoid anything with the word ‘fats’ but these are vital for good health (and great for your skin). Good fats include avocado, olive oil and nuts.
  4. Have a side of greens with every meal – Instead of chips, rice or potatoes, try having a side of broccoli or kale at dinner.
  5. Snack on vegetables – Take a pack of cut veggies and hummus to work or university to snack on when you’re feeling peckish.

Plants are also GREAT for beauty:

And the benefits of plants doesn’t stop with what goes into our bodies, they extend to what we put on our bodies as well.

When used in skincare, natural plant extracts can be deeply nourishing, hydrating and help to treat skin conditions such as sensitivity, dryness, and redness.

We love Aussie brand Jurlique as they use botanicals in skincare to create natural products that look after the skin.

Another from the beautiful Jurlique skincare range (and one we just can’t get enough of), is the new Moisture Plus Rare Rose range, which includes extracts of their exclusively-grown Jurlique Rose, which keeps skin hydrated all day long.
