Why Dry Shampoo Should Be With You At (Almost) All Times

Dry shampoo can be your best go-to hair product for fresh, volumised, clean hair every day.

Dry shampoo hair gurus Batiste have just released two new dry shampoos, bare which is super light with a feminine fragrance, as well as colour-protect for coloured or processed hair.

As hairdresser Alex Fuchs explained from Fuchs, “just an hour in the Australian sun will fade your hair colour, but this product has a UV filter which can help protect the colour by 37%.”

One of the questions I get asked about dry shampoo is which one to buy, and the good thing about Batiste is the products are not overpriced (the new Bare dry shampoo is $10.50) and they have 69% of the market share in Australia. So they know and understand the issues Australians face with their hair.

In my experience, the secret to amazing hair with dry shampoo is knowing how to use it.

I spoke to Alex for some insider info from a pro – a real-life hairdresser. One of the biggest eye-openers for me was that he said that even as a brunette (we are typically oilier than blondes), once you master dry shampoo, you can get away with washing your hair just once a week, and have it still looking (and smelling clean). Wow.

This is a product that can seriously save your hours each morning when you are getting ready.

Here are some dry shampoo hacks:

  1. Layer it – Lift and divide the hair and spray each section, then leave it to soak in before you brush. The layering helps increase volume and lift for the roots
  2. Keep the dry shampoo spray a large distance away from your hair, at least 3cm. This prevents white patches, as some dry shampoos come out white and too much product in one place is not a good look.
  3. Brush the dry shampoo through or massage it in. Massaging dry shampoo into the scalp helps absorb excess oil and just helps distribute the product all over the scalp.
  4. Put dry shampoo in overnight and use a scrunchy or band to pile it up on top of your head for added volume in the morning. You will wake up with fresh hair, and can add a touch more dry shampoo in the morning too.
  5. Spray dry shampoo on your hairbrush as an alternative to directly on hair as an easy way to get it through your hair, especially if you are not experienced using dry shampoo.
