The elixir of life is yet to be found but reducing these everyday things could shed wrinkles from  your skin and years from your age.

Skin is often the first part of the body to show age, and the biggest organ we must protect. From stress relief to diet tips, these helpful insights into your daily routines will keep your skin healthy and you feeling and looking young for years longer.

      1. Inflammatory Food

If your diet includes high amounts of white bread, vegetable oils, margarine and processed sugary foods, your body won’t be thanking you later. These foods may accelerate wrinkle formation due to their inflammation in the body.

Try This:
Increase the Omega 3-fatty acid and alpha-linolenic acid (ALA) sources in your diet with foods such as avocadoes, salmon, olive oil and flaxseeds. Also stock up on vegetables and fruits to get your hit of vitamins, minerals, and protein, which is known to repair tears, crack and wrinkles in your skin.

     2. Loss of Human Growth Hormone

An essential part of a well functioning body, the human growth hormone (HGH) also maintains skin and muscle composition with the help of collagen. Collagen, along with other components, provides skin with structure, strength, flexibility and weatherproofing. As you age the natural production of collagen by the body slows, which can lead to thinner and sagging skin.

Try This:
Studies show that skin quality and collagen production can increase when taking HGH supplements. Results from a 2012 double-blind study on supplement brand SeroVital , show that certain amino acids can provoke HGH production, this results in rejuvenating qualities that includes improved skin quality.

      3. Alcohol

Alcohol is a natural diuretic, this means it dehydrates you. Every time you drink, your skin is deprived of essential vitamins and nutrients which can lead to wrinkly and dry skin. Long term drinking is also linked to the skin disorder Rosacea that can eventually lead to facial discoloration leaving you looking older.

This doesn’t mean you can never drink again. However, your liver will appreciate a break. By drinking less your liver will have time to process all the toxins in your body more efficiently. The results of this will shine through your skin.

 4. Stress

Stress is known as one of the biggest factors of premature aging. In a 2012 study published in the journal PLoS ONE researcher’s linked work related stress to the damage of DNA. This can speed up the aging process. Stress can also impact blood pressure and sleeping patterns that take toll on your body, making you look older. It’s hard to reduce the stress in your life, there’s only so many hours in one day after all. But by reducing the amount of caffeine and processed foods you consume you can relive stress on your digestive system. Also swapping one gym class for a weekly yoga or meditation class is a great stress relief.

     5. Too little or too much sleep

A 2011 study by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine says that men and women who sleep more or less than 6 to 8 hours of sleep may age quicker. The study suggests people who sleep more or less than 6 to 8 hours per night will experience a faster “cognitive decline that is equivalent to four to seven years of aging”.

Try This:
Try and regulate your sleeping patterns by establishing a nightly routine. Eating smaller meals at night and reducing time spent on social media are a few ways to have a good night’s sleep, read more tips to help you sleep better at night here.
