The Easy Ways to Fully Rejuvenate Your Skin in 90 Days

How to tell if your skin is suffering: Top tips from the experts on how to rejuvenate and replenish skin after summer-time damage.

We’ve all heard the old adage as Summer hits and temperatures start to heat up: wear sunscreen, watch out for moles or irregular spots, and don’t spend too much time in the sun.

And although one may be careful with their sun exposure and think their bronzed glow is healthy, underneath, the skin may be suffering.

Skin protection goes beyond just using a sunscreen – often, professional exfoliation is also necessary.

Despite being the body’s largest organ and serving as a protective barrier for infection, skin health is often overlooked beyond the annual mole-check.

Fine lines and wrinkles, premature ageing, pigmentation and sun spots are all signs that skin may need a little more TLC during the summer months.

Without proper attention, collagen and elastin can start to break down, which can give the appearance of ageing, the complexion dull and lack-lustre.

The damage isn’t irreversible though. Skin can renew, regenerate and replenish in just 90 days, with a little help.

Bondi Beauty sat down with Australian Skin Clinics’ National Training Manager, Darlene O’Gara, to gather the hottest (no pun intended) insider tips on how to rejuvenate skin in just 90 days.

Where does 90 days come from?

90 days may seem like a long-time frame, but when considering your skin will be present with you for the rest of your life, taking 90 days out to repair and replenish isn’t a stretch by any means.

Additionally, it’s all to do with the skin’s cell turnover.

“In our 20’s and 30’s, the skin has a 28-day cycle, which is typically how long it takes for skin cells to mature, move up, then peel off the surface naturally,” Darlene says.

“However, as we grow older and move into our 40s and 50s, it can slow down to about 60-90 days”

“Without tending to, these dead skin cells can accumulate on the surface of the skin, trapping bacteria and causing blemishes and breakouts,” she says.

This can additionally lead to discoloured and irregular cells causing more permanent looking spots and discolouration.

As such, assisting this skin cell turnover is critically important to maintaining healthy skin.

It’s just an appearance necessity either. The skin plays a critical role in protecting the body from infection, while also acting as a filter. It also helps to regulate body temperature, something that is critically important in summer.

How can we rejuvenate the skin?

“Developing a strong skincare routine which includes professional exfoliation will encourage skin cell turnover,” Darlene says.

This will make the skin appear smoother and more youthful, which can be supported by using products that stimulate the body’s collagen supply, which naturally depletes as we age.

“Treatments such as micro-needling can also help to break up uneven, lumpy scar tissue and reduce hyperpigmentation and pore size,” she says.

“If needles aren’t your thing, monthly microdermabrasions and skin peels are a great option to buff away dead skin cells that often makes skin appear dull and lacklustre.”

“A skin rejuvenation treatment such as Australian Skin Clinics’ Regeneration Peel helps to normalise cell production and give the skin a revitalised, smoother and more even complexion.

Depending on how many treatments you have, you’ll notice a change in the clarity, elasticity and texture of your skin.” For more information about the treatments, click here

But can the same results be achieved at home?

You don’t have to head to the salon to see all the benefits though. Opting for products that offer a protective barrier between the skin and harsh pollutants can make all the difference.

“A SPF50+ sunscreen and moisturizer are always a must, [but also] using a vitamin C serum daily can help to fight against pollutants that are causing DNA damage,” Darlene says.

Darlene recommends choosing products that contain jojoba oil, as this ingredient can help fight oxidative stressed caused by everyday pollution.

Additionally, incorporate a vitamin-rich eye cream into your beauty routine, and ensure you are exfoliating 1-2 times per week.

“The key to skin resilience is knowing your skin and treating it well,” Darlene says.

“Investing early in the health of your skin with a solid routine will not only protect it from the harsh everyday elements, but also keep you looking and feeling your best throughout the year.”
